Today marks the end of the main season lifeguard beach patrols. There will be no lifeguard service on weekdays but RNLI lifeguards will be back at Le Braye to cover weekends and October half term.

It's been an amazing end to the main season with fantastic weather, large evening high tides and epic surf.

Our lifeguards have been vigilant and hardworking as always, and were called into action yesterday with the successful rescue of four casualties at Le Braye as well as lots of assists and preventative actions.

Jersey beaches are safer thanks to the work of the RNLI lifeguards. It’s been a pleasure working with you all as . ⛱️❤️

Please take care around the coastline and if you
see anyone in difficulty call 999 and ask for Jersey Coastguard.

The St Helier All-Weather Lifeboat was tasked to a 25ft French motorboat after it issued a mayday.

The crew launched and headed towards the casualty, but on the way were also alerted to a sailing vessel that had become entangled with fishing gear around its rudder. Thankfully, the sailing vessel still had steering and was able to continue towards Gorey.

The lifeboat then located the original casualty. With no communications possible and one person visibly suffering from seasickness, the decision was made to establish a tow.

The casualty was safely brought back into St Helier Harbour.

Well done to all the St Helier ALB crew involved. 👏

We’re on ‘Saving Lives at Sea’… 𝐀𝐆𝐀𝐈𝐍! 🎬🧡

The episode which airs on Tuesday 15th September at 8pm on BBC 2, features both St Helier lifeboats launching to a French sailing vessel that had struck the harbour wall, just south of the tanker berth in St Helier harbour. On board were eight people, including four children who were in a life raft waiting to be rescued.

The proximity of the incident to the harbour meant this was a fast-paced rescue. It’s a rescue that our volunteers remember well, and a great example of why teamwork and communication are crucial skills for lifeboat crew.

We hope you enjoy the episode - let us know what you think! ☺️

RNLI Jersey strengthens relationships with Government and community at Charity Expo.

RNLI Jersey Guild members and volunteer crew attended the Association of Jersey Charities’ Charity Expo at the Royal Jersey Showground on Friday 11 September.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to showcase the work of the RNLI in Jersey and, importantly, to meet directly with newly elected States Members, senior civil servants and other key community stakeholders.

With Government priorities, plans and budgets now being shaped for the next four years, maintaining strong and constructive relationships with senior decision-makers is particularly important. For the RNLI, this means ensuring that the organisation’s role in saving lives at sea, its contribution to the wider community and the needs of its volunteer crews remain understood and recognised.

“Events such as this are about much more than simply promoting what we do,” said Michelle Cabot . “They give us the opportunity to build relationships, listen, understand Government priorities and make sure the RNLI remains a valued and trusted partner in Jersey. Managing those relationships professionally and positively is an important part of protecting the RNLI’s future ability to save lives.”

The event also brought together charities, donors and community organisations, creating opportunities for future partnerships and collaboration.

RNLI Jersey is committed to continuing to work constructively alongside Ministers, States Members, senior civil servants and the wider Jersey community in support of its lifesaving mission.

On Wednesday evening, RNLI lifeguards at St Ouen’s bay rescued a surfer that had been caught out by the rapidly incoming tide towards the north of Sands slipway.

A member of the public had spotted the surfer in difficulty and called Jersey Coastguard on 999.

The lifeguards quickly located the individual and over the vehicle PA system they advised him to stay calm and out to sea behind the breaking waves while the rescue water craft (RWC) was launched.

The rescue was completed by senior lifeguard and RWC helm, Anders.

A great example of coordination and teamwork. Well done to the member of the public that called this in. 👏

Please take care around our coastline this weekend as there are large 11.5m tides tonight and over the next couple of days with a low swell forecast.

Always check the tide times and be aware of tidal cutoffs and speak to our lifeguards if you’re ever unsure.

Our local volunteers are ready to answer the call for help without hesitation - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 🧡

The RNLI is a charity that exists to save lives at sea. But recent events have generated deliberate misinformation and a misunderstanding about our purpose and our lifesaving work in the Channel.

As a result, some of our volunteers and staff have been the subject of online and, in some cases, physical abuse. This is unacceptable.

The RNLI’s people represent the very best of society. For over two hundred years they have dedicated themselves to rescuing people they’ve never met before, without judgment, fear or favour.

We are tasked by HM Coastguard to help those in distress, and we'll do so whenever, wherever and whoever they are.

We launched 9,058 times in 2025. Only 109 of those launches were to those in distress in the Channel – 1.2% of our total rescue work. Anyone rescued from a small boat by the RNLI is then taken into the care of the relevant UK authorities.

To those who stand with the RNLI, thank you. For more than two hundred years, we've saved lives at sea around the UK and Ireland, and that commitment remains unchanged.

We’ve had a huge influx of love and support since announcing the debut of St Helier lifeboat station on ‘Saving Lives at Sea’. 🧡

It’s a privilege to be able to share rescues from the little island of Jersey with a wider audience, and show what it’s like to be a lifeboat crew volunteer for the RNLI.

We hope you enjoyed the episode! You’ll be able to watch it on BBC iPlayer if you missed it.

Maybe you’ll see us again this series…maybe not…🙃
