Work begins today on the redevelopment of the Millennium Park ball court, which will be transformed into The Guillaume Memorial Court (The G Court), a new community basketball space created in memory of Guillaume Hoareau.
Guillaume was a much-loved basketball player, coach and community figure whose skill, kindness and passion for the game made a lasting impact across Jersey.
The G Court will honour his legacy by creating a vibrant, high-quality public space where young people and the wider community can play, connect and be active. Its design is inspired by the regional flag of Rรฉunion, Guillaumeโs home island.
The project is being delivered in partnership by the Government of Jersey and the Jersey Basketball Association.
Following Guillaumeโs passing, the Association established a legacy fund to create something lasting in his name. Generous donations from the basketball community, islanders and local businesses saw the fund exceed its original target. The Government of Jersey then match-funded the project, while local architectural firm ANY generously provided the court design.
Paul Milbank, President of the Jersey Basketball Association, said:
โThe G Court is a lasting tribute to Guillaume and everything he gave to basketball and to Jersey. It shows what can happen when community spirit and government support come together around a shared purpose. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated, supported and worked with us.โ
Ben Bliss, Operations Manager, Parks and Gardens, said:
โThe Government of Jersey is pleased to support this redevelopment as part of its commitment to high-quality, accessible public spaces. Working with the Jersey Basketball Association and local supporters, the project will provide a modern multi-use games area and a fitting, lasting tribute to Guillaume Hoareau for current and future generations.โ
Subject to final installation schedules, The Guillaume Memorial Court is expected to be ready by the end of September 2026.
