Dear All,
I am the founder of the Borrow a Bucket Boxes, the toy lending service on 12 of our beaches.
We are having a little trouble and so wanted to reach out to our community to ask for help.
For the first 4 summers we were able to maintain good levels of toys in our boxes with your help. This year everything has been a little more difficult.
The toys from our boxes are going missing at a really quick pace.
Please can we ask that you check if any of our toys have come home by mistake? Maybe check with older, more independent children that if they use the toys they understand they are supposed to be returned?
We have had unprecedented success in procuring toys with amazing sponsorship from local businesses and yet our boxes are still often empty.
For example, almost 100 footballs have been placed in our 12 boxes this year and they are not there now (photo of the designs attached). We have refilling the boxes today. We do this monthly but our amazing volunteers go to clean rubbish and broken toys out much more regularly.
If we can’t resolve this then with great sadness we may need to make it the last year for our beach toy boxes. Our goals were to reduce plastic waste and ensure those in poverty could access toys to enjoy our beautiful beaches. We aren’t meeting these when our boxes are emptied.
We do as always welcome donations of beach toys directly into the boxes (please ensure they are only beach toys and no floatation devices, such as boogie boards, please for safety reasons). Our locations are Long Beach, Green Island, Havre des Pas, West Park, Millbrook at lay-by 6, Bel Royal at The Kiosk, Gunsite, St Brelade’s, Les Braye, Les Laveurs by Jersey Pearl, Plemont and Grève des L’ecq.
Our generous sponsors this year have bought new toys with the intention of them being reused for many families. We are grateful to them all, they are:
PraxisIFM (year on year support), Asset Risk Consultants , Verte Property, Baker & Partners, IQEQ, Walkers, Viberts and Trident Trust.
If anyone wants to discuss sponsorship please let us know. You can contact me on 07797760958 on WhatsApp, or email to [email protected].
Thank you for your help and such amazing support and comments from so many in our community.
Lou Carson
