🌿 Mental Health Awareness Week 2026

“Strong minds. Strong communities. One action at a time.”

11–17 May | UK

Turn awareness into action - So no mind is left behind

Mental Health Awareness Week shines a spotlight on wellbeing, encouraging open conversations and real change across communities.

This year’s message is simple:

👉 Every action counts
👉 Small steps can make a big difference

🧠 Why mental health matters

We all have mental health, just like physical health.
Taking care of it helps us cope, connect, and thrive.

⚜️ Scouting supports mental wellbeing

Scouting isn’t just badges and adventures. It helps young people:

* Build confidence and resilience
* Form strong friendships and feel a sense of belonging
* Connect with nature and reduce stress
* Talk openly and support each other

Outdoor activities, teamwork, and shared experiences all boost wellbeing and help young people feel supported and included.

đź’š Take action this week

* Check in with a friend
* Spend time outdoors
* Start a conversation
* Try something new
* Be kind to yourself and others

🏕️ Support Jersey Scouts

Help us make sure no young person is left behind

You can:

âś…Volunteer your time
âś…Support local Scout groups
âś…Donate or fundraise
âś…Encourage young people to join

Together, we create safe spaces where young people can grow, connect, and thrive.

Today was about remembrance.

Remembering the courage, sacrifice, and hardship endured by the people of our beautiful island during the Occupation. Remembering the families who lived through fear and uncertainty, and those who never gave up hope for freedom.

On this Liberation Day, 81 years on, our local Jersey Scouts stood proudly alongside Girlguiding Jersey to honour that legacy — just as generations before them have done.

We were proud to be alongside other uniformed and military organisations.

Seeing our Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, and adult volunteers parade with such pride and respect was incredibly moving. Led by the unforgettable sound of the Jersey Scout Band they represented the very best of Jersey: community, resilience, respect, and remembrance.

Today was more than a ceremony. It was a promise that we will never forget the sacrifices made for our freedom, and that the spirit of Liberation lives on in the next generation.

Jersey Scouts, you made us all proud.

Happy Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Today we celebrate Squirrels… whether they are awesome Scout leaders or the little furry neighbours we often dismiss as background noise.

They dart across sidewalks, argue with birds at feeders, and vanish up trees the moment you get close. What’s easy to miss is that nearly every one of those small, frantic movements carries a quiet ecological consequence.

When a squirrel buries a nut, it isn’t thinking about forests or future trees. It’s thinking about lunch. Squirrels, however, are imperfect planners. Many of the nuts they hide are never recovered, and over time those forgotten caches sprout into saplings.

Multiply that behaviour across thousands of squirrels and countless seasons, and you get forests slowly renewing themselves, without any human help.

Across our Scout groups, we have a number of “human” Squirrels too.

They may be the youngest section of The Scouts, aged 4 to 6, aptly named for being small, energetic, curious, and constantly in motion. Or they may be our amazing adult volunteers.

Jersey Scouts currently has 2 very active Dreys, with another one due to open shortly!

Adult Leaders have also traditionally been called Squirrels for many years, as Beaver leader names are drawn from woodland animals. We have a number of Adult Squirrels within our local Scout groups.

To all the SQUIRRELS within Jersey Scouts, thank you.

Your time today, and every day, is truly appreciated 🌰✨

🌟 Volunteer with 6th Jersey Scout Group - St Mary & Trinity 🌟
We’re looking for enthusiastic adults to join our team as Squirrel, Beaver and Cub Leaders.
Scouting is all about fun, confidence, outdoor adventures and helping young people grow. You don’t need to have been a Scout before, just a willingness to get involved, support children, and be part of a friendly, supportive team. Training, guidance and ongoing support are provided.
If you enjoy working with people, like being outdoors, and want to make a real difference in your local community, we’d love to hear from you.
