Trevor “El Presidente” Cole’s Final Ride for Jersey Stroke Support

A few weeks before Trevor “El Presidente” Cole passed away, he reached out to us with one last mission for The Sardines.

Trevor asked us to find new homes for his collection of Sardine cycling kit, everything except his beloved, one-of-a-kind Sardine Yellow Jersey, which stayed with him. And here’s the thing: Trevor didn’t want a penny for himself. He wanted to make one last donation to Jersey Stroke Support, a charity close to his heart.

Between us, we raised £220, and we’ve sent it on to Jersey Stroke Support.

But as any Sardine knows… the ride doesn’t end at the first café stop.

Trevor also had a legendary stash of weird and wonderful cycling jerseys — the kind you only acquire after years of miles, mischief, and questionable kit choices and it was his wish that they could be sold too, with all proceeds donated to Jersey Stroke Support.

Want one of Trevor’s jerseys?

If you’d like one (or more) of these unique jerseys, please email:

📩 [email protected]
Include:

* Your details
* The donation amount you’ve made (to Jersey Stroke Support)
…and we’ll arrange collection.

Please share this post far and wide. Let’s keep Trevor’s final act of generosity rolling on, one jersey at a time.

Last night some of the Sardines met up for a few drinks to toast Trevor “El Presidente” Cole at one of his favorite watering holes - The Grand, Jersey. This was of course followed by a Sardine curry at Cafe Spice

The yellow jersey’s retired — the legend isn’t.

It’s with heavy hearts that we share the news that Trevor “El Presidente” Cole passed away yesterday, after a brave fight with MND.

If life is a box of chocolates, Trevor didn’t just pick one; he tried the whole selection, offered you a bite, then told you a story about the time he ate a similar one with someone famous in a place you’ve never heard of… and somehow made it sound completely normal.

Cycling, work, music, motor cars, fine food, good wine, Trevor collected passions the way the rest of us collect café stops. He made friends everywhere, with everyone, from every walk of life. Once you met him, you didn’t forget him, and you certainly didn’t escape without being entertained.

Trevor was instrumental in founding the Lasardine Cycling Club during the Stroke Charity Ride in September 2014. In classic Trevor fashion, he promptly appointed himself El Presidente first Sardine on the list, naturally. Jersey Stroke Support was close to his heart, and thanks in no small part to Trevor’s hard work and persuasive charm, it remains the charity we support.

He came on every Sardine trip and nights out. He refused to ride a road bike because why would he? El Presidente always rolled on his beloved TwentyNiner, like a man making a point.

And then there were the Tour de France adventures where Trevor had an almost supernatural ability to attach himself to the locals. One moment, he’d be climbing rather slowly; the next, he’d be mid-conversation with a French family having a picnic. The rest of us would be grinding towards a summit… and Trevor would be sitting happily eating lunch, having traded the top for a proper human moment. That, in a single scene, was El Presidente.

Every Sardine has their own Trevor story, too many to fit into one post, and too precious to rush. We’re sure everyone who met him will have one too.

Thank you, El Presidente, for enriching our lives, for the laughter, the legend, and the friendship.

Don’t forget to carry on wearing the Yellow Jersey.

Happy New Year, you glorious shoal. 🐟🎉

To all Sardines past, present, and permanently saddle-sore — to Eddie (still on probation), to every follower, supporter, seagull, hanger-on, and long-suffering partner, we raise a glass, a bidon, or whatever’s closest to hand.

Have a great celebration tonight. Riding tomorrow can absolutely wait.
Here’s to roads that roll kindly, cafés that know our order, pubs that don’t ask questions, and the noble creed of the 82%ers — they may not ride, but by heaven they can talk you through every stage of the Tour.

May 2026 bring strong legs, light winds, questionable decisions, legendary debriefs, and many happy reunions: on the road, in the café, or in Sardine HQ, where all good plans eventually end.

Same shoal. Same chaos.
See you out there. 🍻🚴‍♂️✨

The Sardines ride again... summoned by moonlight and mischief
Tonight the peloton rolls under moonlight, cobwebs on the bars, potions in the bottle cages, and the ever-watchful spirit of Eric the Seagull haunting the skies above. Even Halloween can't stop a Sardine ride (unless you are a 82%er).
Ride safe, keep your lanterns lit, and beware of the ghosts of Captain Black's ancestors drafting on the descents…
Happy Halloween from The Sardines.
May your legs stay strong, your lights stay bright, and your pint at the Trinity Arms be holy water.

🐟 A Brilliant Evening with Kevin Sinfield 💙🏉
Last night, the Sardines were proud to support an incredible fundraising event with the inspirational Kevin Sinfield here in Jersey.
The evening kicked off with a 5km fun run at Waterfront Gardens — and yes, Big Tony bravely laced up and took to the course (without a bacon roll in sight 🥓🏃‍♂️).
Later, 12 Sardines gathered for the fundraising dinner at Jersey Rugby Club — that’s double the usual number we manage on a weekend ride! A fantastic turnout in support of Kevin’s mission to raise funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), inspired by his great friend Rob Burrow and all those affected by the condition.
An unforgettable night with an extraordinary man — thank you, Kevin, for everything you do. 👏💪

🚴‍♂️ SARDINE PUB RIDE – THE GRAND FINALE 🍻
What a way to round off the season! Last night’s ride was set against a dramatic Jersey sunset, followed by the usual tall tales, laughter, and top-notch food back at our beloved Trinity Arms — affectionately known as Sardine HQ. 🌅🍺🐟
A huge thank you to the team at The Trinity Arms for looking after us week in, week out throughout spring, summer and early autumn. Your warm welcome, good humour, and excellent grub have become as much a part of Wednesday nights as the Cycling and the 18% climbs.
We’re already looking forward to our Eric Memorial Ride and lunch at Sardine HQ in January, and to the Pub Ride season rolling out again in Spring 2026.
Until then — Lycra, Lovely pub grub and Tall Tales. Just as it should be. 🫡🐟🍻
