Beach clean this weekend πŸ™Œ

We were aiming to have a beach clean on the last Saturday of every month. Sadly we can’t do Saturday this time - but we can do Sunday πŸ™Œ

Come and join us on Sunday 1st of March at 2pm at Brelades Bay to carry out a beach and promenade clean. We will meet on the beach in front of Pizza Express.

I will have gloves and buckets πŸͺ£

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us this morning for our first beach clean of 2026 πŸ™Œ.

We were grateful the rain held off as we went in search of nurdles and microplastics. The sand is still higher than normal, covering lots up, but together we managed to collect over 5lb of plastic. Incredible when it was mainly microplastic πŸ™Œ

The majority of the finds were slithers of plastic fishing rope, released as the rope deteriorates because of the effect of seawater, wind and sun.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to help today and we look forward to seeing you at the next monthly beach clean - Saturday 28th of February at 10am - location will be decided on need, nearer the time.

Woody and Sheena doing their part with a walk along the beach, and incorporating a litter pick at the same time πŸ™Œ

As all types of cleanups remove harmful debris (including plastics) from the environment, they all have value and make a positive contribution to the health of our ocean and our planet. Small steps are important.

Start as you mean to go on πŸ™Œ

This afternoon, the Jersey Wombles took part in an impromptu beach clean. We started at Bel Royal slip and walked towards Gunsite, then back on ourselves and on towards The Station cafe.

The sand has banked up, covering most of the problem areas - but we still managed to collect a hefty 6kg of materials, mainly microplastics - a great start to the year πŸ™Œ

Not so great were the 26 bags of wild dog poo πŸ’© 😱😑🀯 (The Wild Poo Project)

If you want to join in a beach clean - we plan to run them formally on the last Saturday of every month - keep the date 31/01/2026, 10am at lay-by 6, St Aubin πŸ™

With grateful thanks to all our Wombles πŸ™

SCOOP The Sustainable Cooperative are in need of some jars πŸ™Œ

Help them close the loop on glass recycling and removing the need for plastic πŸ™

We need your empty jars!

With Christmas fast approaching, the kitchen team are running very low on all of the jars and bottles that we recycle for your jams, kimchi, chutneys, etc. If you have any empty jam or pickle jars that are clean and have had the labels removed we'd love to reuse them.

We also recycle all of the takeaway containers we use in the deli and for our take home meals, and all the bottles we use for our soup, chilli sauce, ketchup, lassi, etc.
Help us reduce waste as part of the SCOOP LOOP!

See you all soon,
The SCOOP Team

Some sure interesting comments on this article around pay as you throw.

In Jersey only 8% (when last counted) of plastic bottles imported into the island actually make it in to the recycling scheme.

Despite being banks, kerb-side recycling and La Colette only 8% get recycled! Which equates to about 32 million plastic bottles that get incinerated instead of recycled.

This model works in Guernsey because black bin waste is a charged for service and recycling is free.

A review of the waste law is long overdue, but given it’s such a small part of the islands carbon footprint the focus has been on decarbonising transport in the first instance.

A scheme whereby Islanders would be charged for throwing away non-recyclable rubbish is being considered by the government, the Infrastructure Minister has said.
