Another section of floor laid this week using a mixture of soil, ash, powdered oyster shell and whey.
The shell and whey have been kindly donated by Jersey Shell Company and Blanc Pignon Dairy Farm both these ingredients will help harden the floor and reduce wear from our visitor footfall.

A busy working week at the Longhouse.
A section of floor has been dug out and re-laid using soil, whey from our freinds Blanc Pignon Dairy Farm and ash.
A small patch with crushed oystershells from Jersey Shell Company has been added to the usual mix, to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks to all those who have provided these resources.

We are often asked what might be on the Neolithic menu, and to be honest we are not entirely sure.
As our ancestors were at the forefront of a farming revolution they would no doubt be making the most of their labours, but may have still reverted to a little hunter gathering as well.
Maybe our fire lit food isn't to far different.🤔😋

Saturday saw members of the Longhouse team along with a few new faces from Jersey Heritage volunteer teams, working up at Jersey Water Handois site where me are turning unmanaged Hazel into a working Coppice.
Overgrown Hazel has been felled and will be processed into useful resources like, Beanpoles, plant supports, firewood and faggots. New growth will be managed and used for repairs and maintenance of the longhouse.
Some of these products will go on sale, and the proceeds used to help fund tools and improvements at the Longhouse.

Well done to our excellent Education team. Well deserved recognition for the work you do so well.

One of our Longhouse volunteers has been nominated in the Pride of Jersey Volunteer of the year awards.
Astra Denton is a lady of many talents, whom I'm sure many of our followers have met in person, not only at the Longhouse, but at Hamptonne too.
Among her many talents are her amazing weaving skills, which have resulted in a hand made nettle dress, and h**p fishing net.
All of the materials for which Astra has pocessed herself from drying out plants to forming the raw materials into many meters of fibre ready to weave.
If you would like to vote for Astra, please follow the link below.
