Founded in 1996, the Foundation supports Venice’s public museums and connects private donors with the city’s cultural institutions.

Over the years, the Foundation has expanded its commitment. It now protects, restores, and enhances Venice’s historical, artistic, and cultural heritage.

🌊 On 4 November 1966 an exceptionally high tide led to fears that Venice would be submerged.
This fortunately did not happen, but many monumental buildings were seriously damaged.

🏛️The Director General of UNESCO at the time, French philosopher René Maheu, launched an appeal, in response to which initiatives arose in various countries to contribute promptly to restoration work, the volume of which far exceeded the possibilities of the state protection bodies.

🧰After the flood damage had been largely repaired, the Committees determined to remain active, and still operate today, with a vision that is not limited to the urbs, but extends to the civitas.

🔔 Saint John is back to S. Zaccaria 🔔

After its restoration, the statue of Saint John the Baptist has returned from Florence, the city of which he is patron and where he received the best possible care from the most experienced specialists.

This intervention was particularly delicate and involved an integration that required a very complex critical analysis: the reconstruction of the missing arm.

The Association of International Private Committees for the Safeguarding of Venice coordinated all operations on behalf of the Dutch Committee, which strongly desired, promoted and supported the restoration.

To the parish priest, the restorers, the Soprintendenza, the transporters, insurers, installers, our warmest congratulations and heartfelt thanks.

❓I restauri attuati dai Comitati hanno seguito la Carta di Venezia?

🟢 Si, nella misura in cui si è passati dalla protezione delle “cose di notevole interesse” alla conservazione diffusa di un insieme

🟢 Si, perché vi è stata costante attenzione alle “opere modeste” che col tempo hanno acquisito un significato culturale
