Venice Music Project is revolutionizing historic and artistic preservation efforts in Venice.

Venice Music Project is revolutionizing historic and artistic preservation efforts in Venice, by finding new ways to transmit the culture and history of the city, while helping to maintain its arts and heritage to the level of excellence that will ensure that the city remains alive for present and future generations. This is possible through the Friends of Venice Music Project, the US 501c3 non-profit organization, our Associazione Culturale for Italian donations, and additionally a portion of the box office. Team VMP is running the Venice Marathon 2026! 🏃🏼‍♀️

On Sunday, October 25, our co-founder, soprano Liesl Odenweller, laces up for her second Venice Marathon 10K. And, plot twist: Marina, our new Marketing Manager, is taking on the full 42 km. 🎻

Two runners, 52 km, one reason. Every gift goes to our Musical Archaeology Fund: rescuing forgotten manuscripts, transcribing them into modern editions and bringing them back to the stage, sometimes for the first time in centuries.

Run with us, from wherever you are 💙

What does a teenage genius do after “beating” the most celebrated opera composer of his day?

He goes home and learns all his arias by heart. 🎼

Milan, October 1771. On the 16th, Johann Adolf Hasse stages Il Ruggiero, his final opera. On the 17th, a 15-year-old Mozart premieres Ascanio in Alba. His father writes home that Wolfgang has crushed the old master. Wolfgang, meanwhile, is quietly memorising Hasse’s music.

Same date, 255 years apart.

This Saturday we open Baroque and Beyond: Mozart and His Teachers, a journey into the world that shaped him, with arias, duets and instrumental music from Mozart and the masters around him.

🎶 Liesl Odenweller, soprano · Marco Saccardin, baritone

This Saturday, October 10, we present Affetti Veneziani — a tribute to Benedetto Marcello, the Venetian nobleman who composed in secret and married in secret 🎶🔎
Marcello was never a professional musician — on the title pages of his own scores, he called himself only a "noble Venetian amateur of counterpoint " since a patrician of his rank couldn't be seen performing music for a living.

Chamber duets for soprano and contralto, performed by Liesl Odenweller and Elena Biscuola with the Venice Music Project Ensemble.

Benedetto Marcello: lawyer, magistrate, member of Venice's Council of Forty — and, by his own admission on the title pages of his scores, only a "noble Venetian amateur of counterpoint."

He never called himself a professional composer. He was also sharp enough to write one of the great satires of the age, Il teatro alla moda, mocking the very opera business he worked quietly outside of.

This Saturday, October 10, we perform his chamber duets for soprano and contralto: Affetti Veneziani, with Liesl Odenweller, Elena Biscuola, Federico Toffano, and Marija Jovanović.

A quick look back at our Autumn Season opening, September 12 🎶🥰

For one evening, a historic Venetian hall filled again with the sound it was built to hold — violin, double bass, harpsichord, and voice, moving through Handel under painted ceilings and candlelight, with the audience seated just steps from where the musicians stood.

Moments like this are why Venice Music Project exists: bringing this music back into the rooms it was written for, and to the people who come to listen.

Thank you to everyone who was there with us ✨
