The Palestine Museum US is set to present the exclusive US premiere of the Palestine History Tapestry, a powerful collection of embroidered artwork celebrating the resilience and traditional embroidery of Palestinian women. Held in honour of International Women’s Day, the exhibition will open on Sunday with a special ceremony at 15:00 EST at the Museum’s premises in Woodbridge, Connecticut and via Zoom.

The Palestine History Tapestry was founded in Oxford in 2012 and officially launched in partnership with the Middle East Monitor in London in 2018. It consists of over 100 intricately hand-embroidered panels, vividly depicting the rich history and cultural heritage of Palestine. The tapestry has since made its way to the United States, finding a permanent home at the Palestine Museum US.

ā€œTo showcase this work on International Women’s Day is to celebrate not just the largest embroidered collection of illustrative work telling the history of Palestine, but the unbreakable bonds that...

ā€˜There is on this land that which makes life worth livingā€
- Mahmoud Darwish

Palestinian National Poet Mahmoud Darwish is renowned for his poems about Israel’s occupation of Palestine, longing for home and the struggle for the freedom of the Palestinian people. He passed away in 2008 before he could witness the liberated Palestine he always dreamed of.

This embroidery panel of the Palestinian History Tapestry spells out the opening lines of one of his most famous poems: 'There is on this land that which makes life worth living.'

Calligraphy design: Ibrahim Muhtadi

Like the phoenix, defiant and heroic, Gaza will rise again from the ashes. This embroidery panel reflects the unbreakable spirit of Palestinians.

The phoenix is an immortal mythical bird that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. While it is part of Greek mythology, it has analogues in many cultures. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, others that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again.

Following Israel’s decision to close its embassy in Dublin, a Palestinian museum is inquiring about the possibility of leasing the space to open a new branch.

The Palestine Museum US is located in Connecticut, USA, since it opened its doors in April 2018. Its mission is to ā€œtell the Palestinian story to a global audienceā€.

Palestinian American businessman Faisel Saleh, who founded the museum, said turning the former Israeli embassy into a Palestinian museum would be ā€œa political statementā€.

Opening exhibition branch at former Israeli embassy would be ā€˜political statement’, Faisel Saleh says
