March 21st marks the National Day of Remembrance and Commitment against the Mafia in Italy. It’s a time for reflection and unity in the face of organized crime, commemorating lives impacted by it.
On the International Day Against Workplace Violence Towards Women, ERA highlights the thought-provoking works of Maria Marshall and Loredana Longo, showcased in our exhibition Labour of Love: Three Artists Working to Change the World at Palazzo della Corgna, Città della Pieve. MariaMarshall’s six-minute video loop takes viewers on a haunting journey through institutional corridors, leading to a moment where her skin ripples as if touched by phantom hands. The work confronts the unease and vulnerability women feel within patriarchal systems, asking the vital question:
“When will safety and equality become a reality for all?”
Longo’s powerful piece examines the objectification of women’s bodies, exposing how systems of power commodify and control. Her work stands as a bold declaration of autonomy and resistance, urging viewers to reflect on the importance of reclaiming agency in oppressive contexts.
Together, these artists demonstrate the transformative power of art in addressing systemic violence and inequality. Their works remind us that change begins with awareness and collective action.
➡ ERA collaborated with both artists as part of the exhibition program Labour of Love: Three Artists Working to Change the World at Palazzo della Corgna, Città della Pieve. Curated by Adina Drinceanu, the exhibition featured films, installations, and photographic works by Maria Marshall, Letizia Battaglia, and Loredana Longo, highlighting the transformative power of art in addressing societal issues.
