Thetis by Andrea Crespi, developed for As Above, So Below - an exhibition organized by ONE OCEAN FOUNDATION, conceived and curated by , Collateral Event of La Biennale di Venezia - continues its journey 🪼🌊

This time, the work arrives in Matera as part of The Sea Is Closer Than You See, continuing its exploration of our relationship with the ocean and the interconnectedness between what lies above and below.

Flashback to World Oceans Day ✨🌊

The closing of AS ABOVE, SO BELOW, a Collateral Event of Arte 2026 — an experiential collective exhibition conceived as a sacred space to listen, reflect, and heal.

A closing moment of alignment, synchronicity, and resonance — where art, ecology, and consciousness converged through shared frequencies, opening onto the soundscapes of the future.

The evening became a meditation on Ocean, Earth and Regenerative Futures — a conversation between Jan Pachner of and Sara Roversi of & , tracing the invisible threads that connect ecology, culture, and consciousness.

The dialogue dissolved into the spellbinding frequencies of ’s .era.nuova live performance — a moment in which sound became more than sound - a vibration moving through body, land and sea.

An echo of ancient memory and futures yet to emerge, opening a space where listening became an act of connection — a portal toward a more conscious evolution.

ZEITGEIST19 returns with its founders and curators of As Above, So Below, Collateral Event of La Biennale di Venezia, and , reflecting on the making of the exhibition, the ideas that shaped it, and its central themes of interconnectedness: between ocean and land, human and more-than-human worlds, science, technology and art.

We are deeply grateful to for its support, its institutional commitment to protecting our oceans and wider ecosystems, and for believing, as we do, in the capacity of art to meaningfully contribute to ecological dialogue.

Thank you for hosting us! As Above, So Below may now be closed in Venice, but its story is far from over. We are already getting ready for its next chapter.

Dive deeper into Fish String Theory by

The listening installation comprises a hydrophone, sculptural fish forms, tensioned strings, a machine-listening system, and a large language model, inviting visitors to attune themselves to the invisible conversations unfolding beneath the water’s surface.

Originally initiated through the .space artist residency —organised by and , gracefully hosted by - the project was further developed through the Te Ataata Residency Programme at Villa Antipode, with the support of the French Embassy, the European Union, and Auckland University of Technology.

A dedicated chapter of AS ABOVE, SO BELOW invited visitors into the receding waters of the Caspian Sea through Water Older Than the Sun by .menlibayeva & , accompanied by an original score by . Alongside it, Suad Gara’s short documentary Requiem for the Caspian extends the narrative into a cinematic experience.

In this conversation, Almagul Menlibayeva, Suad Gara and Reinhold Heil reflect on the making of the works and the urgent realities that inspired them.

Discover more about Yoko Shimizu’s Tides of Light: Meadows of the Abyss, presented as part of the collective exhibition AS ABOVE, SO BELOW, an Official Collateral Event of Arte 2026. The work was developed during our artist residency aboard the ONE Catamaran (.a.r.e.cvc), following field research on plankton and microplastics in the Mediterranean Sea.
