The deadline for abstracts for the European Biennial of Towns and Town Planners this November in Lisbon has just been extended until 26 July. So plenty of extra time to get your ideas in!

🟥 The for projects of the 15th of European Towns and Town Planners has been published by the Associação Portuguesa de Urbanistas (APU, Portuguese Association of Planners), an ECTP-CEU member and local organiser of this year’s edition of the Biennale.
The Biennale will take place in , from Wednesday 11th to Friday 13th November 2026. This year’s Workshop (separate call published on 29th May) will be fully integrated into the Biennale programme. There will also be a rich programme of social events in the evenings and planners-relevant guided tours.

🟥 Theme, tracks and sessions
This year’s theme of the Biennale is “The Lens of Time in Spatial Planning”. There will be four thematic tracks, each one with a keynote speaker and one or more parallel sessions:
1️⃣ Time of the Process (Administrative Agility)
2️⃣ Time of Ex*****on (Construction & Circularity)
3️⃣ Time of People (Sovereignty & Rhythms)
4️⃣ Time of New Frontiers (AI, Digital and Social Paradigms)

📆 30 July 2026: communication of acceptance
📆 12 October 2026: full materials submission

The submission fees and ticket prices will be published soon. There will be early-bird discounts and discounts for individual members of ECTP-CEU member organisations who are up to date with their membership fees.

to Host the Congress of Polish Urbanism '26
From 23 to 25 September 2026, Gliwice will host the Congress of Polish Urbanism '26, Poland's leading national event dedicated to urban planning and spatial development. Organised by the Society of Polish Town Planners (Towarzystwo Urbanistów Polskich) - member of the European Council of Spatial Planners (ECTP-CEU), the Congress will take place at the Education and Congress Centre of the Silesian University of Technology.

Since its first edition in 2003, the Congress has served as a platform for dialogue between urban planners, public authorities, researchers, and professionals committed to shaping better cities and higher-quality public spaces. This year's discussions will culminate in a strategic declaration outlining priorities for the future development of Polish cities and regions.
Held under the theme "Urban Planning at a Crossroad," the programme will include plenary sessions and parallel thematic panels exploring the key challenges facing contemporary urban development. Topics will range from demographic change and housing policy to the digitalisation of spatial planning and the future of planning systems. The scientific programme is prepared by the Congress Programme Council, chaired by Professor Tadeusz Markowski.

Gliwice is a fitting host for this edition of the Congress. Located in the heart of the Upper Silesian Metropolitan Area, the city is recognised for successfully combining its industrial heritage with innovation, sustainable urban development, and forward-looking spatial policies. A key element of the programme will be a series of technical study visits showcasing selected urban development projects and planning initiatives across the city.
Registration opened in June and will remain open until all available places have been filled.

The Congress will also feature the presentation of awards for Poland's Best Public Space and for the best graduate thesis in urban design, spatial planning, and spatial management.

📌 Applications are open to individual professionals and teams of 2–3 young planners
📌 ECTP-CEU’s “35-10-year rule” applies
📌 10 European projects will be selected
📌 Each selected project receives a grant of 400 Euro
📌 At least one member of each selected team is required to attend in Lisbon
📌 Each young planner in attendance is invited for free to the official delegates’ dinner (networking opportunity)
📌 Academic or university research projects are not eligible
