Our mission is to unlock the potential of people living in vulnerable circumstances, so that they can transform the lives of their families and communities. Our programs support vulnerable families with young children (0-6 years) and integrate refugees through work and entrepreneurship. To do so, we bring together the strengths of non-profit organizations and the private sector, in Europe, Asia an

d South America. We are an open net and we welcome working with companies, organizations and foundations who share the same goals. The Human Safety Net is now active in over 20 countries. Our home is in Venice, in the historic Procuratie Vecchie on St Mark’s Square.

How can migrant entrepreneurs turn their experience into sustainable businesses?

🇨🇱 In Chile, The Human Safety Net is launching two new initiatives with Scalabrini and Acción Emprendedora to support migrant entrepreneurs, especially women, in building greater economic independence.

Emprende con Futuro helps early-stage entrepreneurs strengthen their personal brand, develop a clear business model and improve their financial management through in-person training.

Bases Seguras, Futuro Sostenible supports entrepreneurs with established businesses through hybrid training, KPI tools, cash flow planning and strategic financial guidance.

Both programmes address key barriers, including limited access to formal business networks and financial tools adapted to the local context. Participants leave with practical resources and a 12-month Strategic Action Plan to support long-term growth and stability.

🗣️ For Nicole*, Family Mentoring became a turning point.
A single mother of two young children with additional needs, she had been managing therapy, work and daily life without family support. Through the younus Family Mentoring programme, she was matched with Michaela, a parent mentor who supported the whole family for a year.

👉 Michaela offered practical guidance, emotional support and activities to strengthen the children’s language and motor skills. She also helped Nicole communicate her son Leonardo’s needs to his kindergarten and advocate for better support.
Leonardo was later matched with his own mentor, Bettina. Through play, stories and encouragement, he has become more confident, communicative and able to set boundaries.

Today, both children are making progress, while Nicole feels more supported and less alone. Her story shows how one trusted relationship can strengthen an entire family.

A child’s sense of safety is about more than having a roof over their head. It also comes from feeling seen, supported and emotionally secure.

🇭🇺 Since early 2026, The Human Safety Net Hungary and the Hungarian Red Cross Budapest have been supporting vulnerable families with children aged 0–6 in Budapest’s 8th and 9th districts.

The programme combines supportive parenting sessions, play-based activities and cultural experiences designed to strengthen family bonds, rebuild parental confidence and foster a stronger sense of belonging 🫂
By bringing together the Red Cross’s local expertise and The Human Safety Net’s focus on early childhood development, the partnership aims to give children a stronger foundation and help families face the future with greater confidence.

How can partnerships between civil society organisations and local governments create lasting change in early childhood development? 🤱

During Global Parenting Month, The Human Safety Net hosted a webinar with experts from Bulgaria, Argentina and Romania to explore how collaboration can build stronger support systems for children and families.

📊 With only 43% of children under five having access to quality early childhood development services, fragmented services, short-term funding, unequal access and the challenge of scaling without losing quality remain major barriers.
Each country offers a different path to lasting impact. Bulgaria integrates health, education and social services, Argentina builds solutions around community needs and Romania uses evidence to scale local pilots through public policy.

The message was clear: lasting and equitable impact requires strong partnerships, community involvement and solutions embedded in public systems.

How can access to funding help refugee-led businesses grow? 📈

Since 2017, The Human Safety Net has supported refugee entrepreneurship in France alongside La Ruche, SINGA and a network of 12 incubators. So far, nearly 1,200 refugees have joined incubation programmes, leading to the creation of 425 ventures.
A new partnership with Solidarité Migrants Entrepreneurs strengthens this support through long-term guidance and access to interest-free, unsecured loans of up to €10,000.

⏳ Between 2026 and 2028, SME aims to support more than 300 entrepreneurs and provide a total of €1 million in interest-free loans.
Generali employees will also contribute their skills and expertise, helping entrepreneurs build sustainable businesses and create new economic opportunities.

🗣️ How can we move beyond polarization and build a more constructive conversation on migration?

This was the focus of The Missing Conversation: Finding Common Ground on Migration, a roundtable hosted by The Home of The Human Safety Net, the Institute of International Affairs and Second Tree as part of Refugee Week Italy.

The discussion brought together voices from academia, public institutions, humanitarian organisations and the private sector, reaching one shared conclusion: Italy needs regular, safe and well-managed migration pathways.
Employment, stronger public-private collaboration and a more inclusive narrative can support integration and move the conversation beyond crisis and polarization.

🇲🇾 A new light has been switched on in Malaysia.

This June, Generali launched Gen Sinar, its second Social Insurance Product developed with the support of The Human Safety Net.
Created in partnership with Amanah Raya, Malaysia’s oldest and only public trustee, Gen Sinar is designed to provide accessible and sustainable protection for lower-income families in the event of a parent’s death or disability.

The product builds on research conducted in 2022 into the challenges faced by Malaysia’s low-income households, where financial shocks can put children’s education and future opportunities at risk.

💡 In Malay, sinar means light: a symbol of hope, protection and a brighter future for families and their children.

Cycling for People brought colleagues from different countries together for a shared goal: supporting The Human Safety Net programmes as part of Global Challenge 2026.

With 9,500 km covered by bike, this initiative shows how sport and commitment can become a meaningful act of solidarity.

€828,000 raised. A new milestone reached, together.

Throughout June, The Human Safety Net community around the world turned everyday actions into meaningful impact: walking, running, cycling, volunteering, fundraising and bringing people together through local initiatives.

Through the Global Challenge 2026, all funds raised will be reinvested in programmes across 25 countries, supporting NGO partners that help families with young children and refugees unlock their potential and build brighter futures.

Thank you to everyone who took part, contributed and helped turn a global movement into real opportunities for families and refugees around the world.
