"My work consists of three distinct yet related bodies, botanical illustration, botanical and still-life subjects rendered in oil and my new passion: mosaic. These separate bodies both share the subject of nature and the art of observation, while being executed in different mediums. [...] Mosaic is an ancient practice still rendered with the same techniques, using stone, glass, hammer and chisel.

Mosaic is a language, tessera are the letters to form the lines/words and sentences. My mosaics are a study of these rhythms. By leading the viewer through the contours, ebb and flow of the subject. A mosaic artist creates the feeling of a subject with the material’s size, shape, colors and elements. My work is a combination of modern materials and ancient practice still rendered with the same techniques; using glass, stone, nipper, hammer and chisel. I am dedicated to preserving the history and tradition of mosaic art, along with the techniques and materials used in the past. One must study and remember the past to be informed for the future."

Come and viait her exhibition!

“It was a windy night, and before my retina registered anything, I was smitten by a feeling of utter happiness: my nostrils were hit by what to me has always been its synonym, the smell of freezing seaweed.”
(Joseph Brodsky, Watermark)

Tal Yehezkely, our scholar in residence, organized a “scent walk” in the Venetian Ghetto, reflecting on boundaries and sensitivities. Scenting the threshold of the Ghetto, listening to texts by scientists, writers, and philosophers, bringing attention to the body, sniffing what was and what is.

She is now finishing her stay at Venezia Contemporanea, where she resided with her family: Partner Ram and baby Shvo, both contributed to shaping the scholarly-artistic practices of the scent walk.

In galleria La Storta, the Dutch visual artist Gonny Stuut is initiating a growing installation connected to the carneval, with participation of the public.

By short interviews visitors (Venetians and tourists) are invited to come in for a personal interview to contribute their experiences about identity, double illusions, their personality in combination with the use of masks.

The written texts will be integrated in the project and is growing day by day.

The hours that La Storta is open for interviews or just visiting are 13-17 hrs.

Gonny is since 2007 connected with a lot of passion to Venezia, which resulted in 2 exhibitions, a intercultural maskproject with 450 schoolchildren in Delft NL, and Venice, and research possibilities of cultural cooperations.

This is an ongoing proces. Stuut visits Venice a few times yearly. Not to forget for the carnival time. She likes theatrical costumes with a surreal twist in her work and masks.
