La nostra realtà nasce dall’iniziale impulso di un gruppo di residenti delle Vignole di sviluppare un ragionamento sul futuro dell’isola. Ne è nato un progetto che fin da subito aveva tutte le prerogative per superare la sfera “intima” e divenire d’interesse più vasto. Così ai primi sostenitori se ne sono aggiunti in pochi mesi tanti altri fino al 6 marzo 2021, data formale d’inizio dell’Asso
ciazione senza scopo di lucro Veras. L’obiettivo principale è realizzare un Parco Agro-Ambientale pubblico in un’area demaniale di straordinario interesse naturale da anni inutilizzata. Uno spazio di circa quattro ettari che ha caratteristiche vegetative uniche nell’ambito della laguna veneziana, e sul quale, con l’aiuto di botanici, ingegneri ambientali e agronomi, abbiamo avviato un progetto di riordino e cura per sviluppare iniziative di conoscenza e valorizzazione. I due punti si integrano attraverso azioni di sensibilizzazione e di formazione rivolte principalmente ai giovani in età scolare e alle relative istituzioni. La produzione del cibo sano in un ambiente naturale è già un aspetto peculiare dell’isola, il nostro progetto intende dargli maggiore impulso attraverso la nascita di un Parco agro-ambientale capace di ospitare un sistema ben organizzato di piccoli orti rivolti principalmente alle scuole, alle famiglie e alla comunità lagunare nel suo insieme. Orti che fungeranno da laboratori a cielo aperto in cui creare occasioni di sensibilizzazione e di cultura intorno al cibo sano e alle sue relazioni con la salute e con i comportamenti corretti nei territori e nelle città. Oggi è concretamente possibile costituire una Comunità Energetica Rinnovabile che produca e consumi localmente l’energia autoalimentata da un piccolo impianto fotovoltaico: si tratta del secondo cardine del nostro progetto, che punta a rendere la piccola isola delle Vignole “carbon-free”. Veras emerged through a residents group on the Venetian lagoon island of Vignole, coming together to foster ideas about the future direction of the isle. The project has since garnered enough prerogatives to supersede the mere insular and now can broaden out its scope. Several new adherents were eager to join us over the first few months of the planning phase and thus, with this build up of participation, on the 6th of March, 2021, the non-profit association Veras was statutorily established. Veras's core objective is to create a Agricultural-Environmental Park open to the public. It would occupy a state-owned area of outstanding natural significance, yet this zone had been left abandoned for decades. This area is comprised of approximately four hectares, characterised by the unique vegetation of the Venetian lagoon, and on which, with the help of botanists, environmental engineers and agronomists, we have launched a reorganisation and preservation project in order to further expertise and enhancement initiatives. There are two cornerstones to the project: producing only wholesome food; utilising only locally-sourced clean energy. These two principles are integrated through awareness-raising and educational involvement aimed mainly at school-age youngsters and related institutions. The island is already noteworthy for its cultivation of healthy produce in a natural environment, our aim is to give greater impetus to this prevailing practice through the shaping of the aforementioned agri-environmental park, capable of hosting a well-organised system of allotments for locals, schools, families and the lagoon community as a whole. Veras considers these allotments as open-air laboratories for fostering an ever deeper ecological awareness as well as wholesome food cultivation and understanding its relationship with health. Furthermore, this endeavour hopes to prompt similar practices elsewhere, in other areas of towns or cities. Today it is quite feasible to establish a Renewable Energy Community that produces and consumes self-powered energy locally, all by way of a small photovoltaic system. Achieving this goal would fulfil Veras's second cornerstone: to make the small Vignole island carbon-free.
