AI doesn’t know your customers as you do.

It doesn’t know that one of your best wholesale clients prefers a quick call over a long email. It doesn’t know the relationships you’ve built over years, or the lessons you’ve learned while running a coffee business.

It’s true that AI can process data faster than any of us and will continue improving. But it can’t know the small details that make the biggest difference in your operations, your partnerships, and your customer experience.

As AI becomes more integrated into the coffee industry, your expertise matters more now than ever.

When AI surfaces an insight, you’re the one who asks: “Does this actually make sense for our roastery, café, or team?” You’re the one who challenges it, refines it, and teaches the system what truly matters in your business and your partnerships.

The goal isn’t to hand decisions over to AI, but to use technology more intentionally so coffee businesses can work smarter and grow sustainably. Let’s leverage AI into a partner that understands your world because that’s where the real transformation will happen.

What expertise do you bring that no algorithm could replicate? We’d love to hear what makes your knowledge irreplaceable.

Six years ago, DCF was born with a simple feeling: information about data and technology in coffee was often hard to find or disconnected, leaving people with more questions than answers. And we thought: maybe it would help if more people got in the same room and talked about it.

So we started organizing events, not with a big master plan, but with curiosity and the desire to create spaces where people could learn from each other. What we didn’t know then was how much we would learn ourselves along the way.

Over the years, those conversations, collaborations, and experiences naturally led us to where we are today: working closely with traders and roasters through consulting projects that are built on real industry challenges and real relationships. Not through pushing technology or following a one-size-fits-all approach, but through co-creation, active listening, and meeting each coffee company where they are.

We’re grateful to everyone who has crossed paths with us, trusted us, challenged us, or taught us something over the years. Thank you for being part of the journey!

“Digital strategy” is often mistaken for the act of buying the right software, but in reality, they couldn’t be more different.

We regularly see coffee businesses invest in new platforms with the expectation that better tools will automatically lead to better insights, clearer decisions, and more efficient operations. But without the right foundations in place, even the most powerful technology ends up underused or simply disconnected from the day-to-day reality of the business.

A platform can organize and visualize data, but it cannot fix inconsistencies, fill gaps, or define what truly matters for your company. If the data going in isn’t reliable, the outputs won’t be either. And if your KPIs aren’t clearly defined, no dashboard will magically translate them into meaningful action.

Digital transformation is less about the tools you adopt and more about the way your business thinks about data. It requires – first and foremost – clarity on what you want to measure and why. Of course, technology plays an important role, but it can’t replace a strategy.

Before making your next investment, it’s worth asking a different question: are we truly ready to make the most of it? If the answer is no, we’d love to chat.

Artificial Intelligence is starting to show up in more corners of the coffee industry, promising new ways of working, building relationships, and making decisions. However, coffee has always been deeply human. It’s built on craft, intuition, relationships, and experience developed over time. So much of what defines it has traditionally relied on people, not algorithms or machines.

And yet, as data becomes more accessible and technology more integrated into daily operations, coffee professionals across the value chain are increasingly finding ways to use AI to support, enhance, and even challenge their decision-making. Not as a replacement for their own expertise, but as something that works alongside it.

Which leads to a bigger conversation: Does AI change how expertise is developed and shared? Where does human intuition remain irreplaceable? And what is the minimum data we need to make AI useful?

To a large extent, the industry is still navigating these answers, but it’s becoming increasingly important that we start asking the right questions.

This is just the beginning of a broader conversation we’re excited to explore. Over the coming months, we’ll be diving deeper into how AI is shaping different parts of the coffee ecosystem and what it could mean for the future of the industry.

If you’re thinking about this too, we’d love to hear your perspective.

Most digital transformation projects do not fail because of technology but because the system was never designed with the people who have to use it.

Designing systems that actually get used requires four things:
1.     Listening before building
2.     Co-creating before configuring
3.     Aligning technology with real-world operations
4.     Planning for continuous improvement from day one

In digital transformation projects, it is tempting to move quickly to tool selection and development, but without early collaboration, even the best software can struggle with adoption.

That is why our approach to digital transformation and data optimization begins with listening. We work alongside our clients to design systems that fit their operations, their context, and their partnerships, not just industry best practices.

What has made digital initiatives succeed or fail in your experience?
