In Mali and Mauritania, hospitality is also the sound of tea being poured.
Before stories are told, before manuscripts are opened, tea begins its slow journey from pot to glass.
Poured from a height, again and again, it gathers foam, flavour, and time.
Three glasses traditionally mark the ritual.
The first is strong.
The second is sweet.
The third is gentle.
More than a drink, tea is a shared pause — a moment for conversation, listening, and presence.
Under the shade of a tent or inside a desert libray, the tea ceremony turns waiting into welcome.
A small detail, perhaps.
But many journeys into knowledge begin with a glass of tea.
