On this page we want to raise your awareness about youth participation… Have you heard about the project GaYa – Governance and Youth in the Alps?
The GaYa Project was an initiative led by Alpine NGOs such as and .
Its mission? 👉 Empower municipalities and regions to build meaningful and structured youth participation.

ℹ️To explain how participation really works, the project created a powerful metaphor: 🏔️ Youth engagement is a hike.

And every hike has 5 essential stages.
🥾 1. Starting the Hike
Motivation and political will are key. Inspire local actors, involve youth from their everyday reality and secure time and resources. Participation is an investment — and it pays off.
🧭 2. Getting Prepared
Set a clear framework, define roles and decision-making procedures. Ensure inclusiveness and co-design the process with young people.
🤝 3. During the Hike
Be transparent about what can (and cannot) be influenced. Meet young people where they are and build real dialogue.
🏔️ 4. Reaching the Summit
Deliver concrete results. Keep promises. Communicate clearly. Trust is built through action.
🔄 5. Coming Back
Evaluate, learn and institutionalise participation. Youth engagement must become part of everyday governance — not just a one-off initiative.

Our youth participation journey 🕰️📖

Youth participation in didn’t happen overnight.
It has been a journey built step by step across the Alpine Region together with the young people and the EUSALP Stakeholders. 🏔️🇪🇺

🌱 It started with a simple ambition: Make sure young people are not just consulted… but involved.

We began with Pitch Your Project Competition, the EUSALP Youth Summer Camp and it grew through the creation of the EUSALP Youth Council, giving young voices a structured place within the Alpine governance system.

🏔 It evolved through participation in Forums, thematic groups , and cross-border projects turning ideas into concrete contributions.

The journey continues and it’s now the moment to join us and apply to the EUSALP YC 2026/2027 💻
