Il riconoscimento non basta: le donne agricoltrici hanno bisogno di pari opportunità per rafforzare la sicurezza alimentare.
Le agricoltrici provenienti da tutte le regioni in cui opera la WFO si sono riunite per il primo webinar sulla sicurezza alimentare della WFO del 2026 , chiedendo ai governi e agli attori del settore agroalimentare di tradurre il riconoscimento del loro ruolo in pari accesso alla terra, ai finanziamenti, alla tecnologia, ai mercati e ai processi decisionali.
Aprendo la discussione, Cristina Chirico, Segretario Nazionale Donne in Campo di CIA-Agricoltori Italiani, Facilitatrice del Gruppo di Lavoro WFO su Sicurezza Alimentare e Nutrizione , ha sottolineato la necessità di andare oltre la semplice celebrazione del contributo delle donne e di concentrarsi sulla loro effettiva emancipazione: “ Il nostro obiettivo non è semplicemente celebrare e riconoscere il ruolo delle donne agricoltrici. Soprattutto, vogliamo comprendere le loro reali condizioni di vita e individuare i bisogni concreti necessari per raggiungere una vera emancipazione in agricoltura. Senza l'emancipazione delle donne agricoltrici, non può esserci sicurezza alimentare sostenibile né sistemi agroalimentari resilienti ”.

Nearly 30% of people living in rural areas globally experienced moderate or severe food insecurity in 2025, compared with 22% in urban areas. Women also remained more affected than men.
On 23 July, hosted the webinar “Women Farmers at the Heart of Food Security”, the first in the WFO webinar series.
Bringing together ' first-hand experiences with global policy and research perspectives, the event explored ' contribution to food security and sustainable food systems, the barriers they face and the conditions needed to strengthen their role.
Key takeaways from the discussion:
🔹Peer-to-peer exchange, capacity building, collaboration and training help women farmers build resilient and profitable farm businesses.
🔹Access to financial resources, innovation, digital tools, and infrastructure connect women directly to value chains and new markets.
🔹Mentorship and active participation in decision-making elevate women farmers' leadership in agriculture.
🔹Lasting change requires transforming and redesigning the institutions and gender norms that shape agricultural systems.
💡Ensuring that women farmers have equal opportunities is not only a matter of fairness; it is essential for building more productive, resilient and sustainable food systems.
