The Stories of the Fondazione: Supporting European Spirit of Youth Orchestra

Some forms of culture are built to be shared.

Through its commitment to education and cultural development, Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS supports initiatives that create opportunities for young talents to grow within an international and collaborative environment.

This vision takes shape in projects such as the European Spirit of Youth Orchestra (ESYO), a long-standing initiative that brings together young musicians from across Europe, offering them not only artistic training, but also the experience of working as part of a collective.

Through its concert season United Together 2026, ESYO promotes a culture without borders — connecting cities, institutions, and audiences, while encouraging dialogue between generations and communities-

From performances in theatres and cultural venues to initiatives dedicated to students and more vulnerable audiences, music becomes a tool for inclusion, exchange, and shared growth.

Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS featured in Visioni & Connessioni.

Fondazione Ernesto Illy is honoured to be featured in Visioni & Connessioni – Geografia emozionale dell’altra Italia, the new editorial project promoted by EY Foundation.

The publication brings together stories, interviews and photographic portraits of Italian entrepreneurial families that have given rise to innovative philanthropic initiatives in the fields of education, wellbeing, culture, innovation and beauty — contributing in tangible ways to social growth and regeneration.

Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS is included among a group of leading foundations that share a long‑term vision of philanthropy rooted in knowledge, responsibility and impact, and guided by the belief that development must be cultural, social and sustainable.

The book was presented yesterday, May 13th in Rome, at Villa Magistrale, during an event dedicated to contemporary philanthropy, attended by representatives of institutions, foundations and the business community. On this occasion, Anna Illy, Chair of Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS, and Isabella Modde, Programme Manager of Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS, took part in the launch, contributing to a collective reflection on the evolving role of foundations in addressing complex global challenges.

Through educational, scientific and social initiatives, Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS continues to promote a model of philanthropy centered on long‑term value creation, international cooperation and access to knowledge — in line with the vision of Ernesto Illy, who believed that ethics, science and education are essential drivers of progress.

Ernesto Illy’s Legacy: Knowledge as a Responsibility

Throughout his life, Ernesto Illy believed that knowledge carries responsibility. For him, learning was never an individual achievement, but a shared process meant to generate value for society.

This conviction guided his lifelong commitment to education, scientific dialogue and the dissemination of knowledge across disciplines and communities. Ernesto Illy saw education as a way to connect people, cultures and fields of expertise, a space where science, enterprise and ethics could interact to build more resilient and informed systems.

🎉 The Stories of Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS: Supporting I Girasoli APS

In this episode of The Stories of the Fondazione, we shine a light on I Girasoli APS, a Trieste‑based association that for more than three decades has offered a welcoming, inclusive community for people with disabilities. Born from the initiative of families and volunteers, I Girasoli has grown into a place where individuals can develop their abilities, express their creativity, and experience the dignity that comes from meaningful participation in community life.

At the heart of their mission is a belief in the transformative power of art, culture, and shared experiences. Within their community home and their School of Arts and Crafts, participants engage in activities ranging from woodworking and ceramics to weaving, theatre, music, and cultural expression, paths that nurture self‑confidence, autonomy and a sense of belonging.

This year marks the beginning of our support to I Girasoli APS, Enabling the association to expand these opportunities even further. The contribution will help the association create a programme of artistic and cultural exploration, offering participants the chance to attend theatre performances, visit museums, discover the artistic heritage of Friuli Venezia Giulia and the nearby Veneto region, and take part in music‑based activities alongside dedicated educators from the Cooperativa Campo dei Girasoli.

For us supporting I Girasoli APS means reinforcing a shared vision: a society where every individual is recognized for their potential, where inclusion is fostered through concrete opportunities, and where art and culture serve as bridges toward dignity, expression and human connection.

Counting Down to the Residential Period 2026!

As we approach the start of the new Residential Period, we look back at some of last year’s most inspiring moments, from classroom sessions to hands-on activities, and from meaningful conversations to the vibrant coffee culture of Trieste.

Towards our First Social Report – From Method to Action

Impact measurement is not a theoretical model for us, but a working approach that guides every project of Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS. “From method to action” means applying our principles across each phase — from understanding real needs to delivering value.

We start by listening through understanding the context, identifying a genuine need, and defining the purpose. This ensures our initiatives respond to what truly matters to partners and communities.

We then translate needs into expected outcomes and measurable indicators, aligning each project with our strategic impact goals, the SDGs, and our Theory of Change as a practical decision‑making tool.

Throughout implementation, we collect data and insights to learn what works and what can be improved, ensuring responsible, long‑term impact.
Thus, measurement becomes daily practice, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and alignment with our mission.

This third episode concludes our methodological arc and anticipates the release of the First Social Report of Fondazione Ernesto Illy ETS.
