IT - ⚓📖 Ieri sera, in una serata estiva informale in riva al mare, il Club ha avuto il piacere di ospitare una serata dedicata alla storia marittima della nostra città, grazie all'intervento del nostro socio Paolo Flegar, che ha presentato il suo volume: "D. Tripcovich & C. – Storia ed operazioni dei rimorchiatori del "Dipartimento Salvataggi"".

Attraverso immagini, documenti e racconti, Paolo ci ha accompagnato alla scoperta di una pagina affascinante della storia di Trieste e della società D. Tripcovich & C., fondata nel 1895. Il libro ripercorre lo sviluppo del Dipartimento Salvataggi e le principali operazioni condotte dai suoi rimorchiatori tra il 1906 e il 1957, offrendo uno spaccato unico dell'evoluzione del soccorso marittimo nel Mediterraneo nella prima metà del Novecento.
Una serata ricca di storia, cultura e passione per il mare, che ha suscitato grande interesse e stimolato un vivace confronto tra i presenti.
Complimenti a Paolo Flegar per questo importante lavoro di ricerca e divulgazione, che contribuisce a preservare e valorizzare la memoria del patrimonio marittimo di Trieste.

EN - ⚓📖 Last night, on an informal summer evening by the sea, the Club had the pleasure of hosting an evening dedicated to the maritime history of our city, thanks to the participation of our member Paolo Flegar, who presented his book: "D. Tripcovich & C. – History and Operations of the Tugboats of the "Salvage Department"".

Through images, documents, and stories, Paolo led us on a journey through a fascinating chapter in the history of Trieste and the company D. Tripcovich & C., founded in 1895. The book traces the development of the Salvage Department and the major operations conducted by its tugboats between 1906 and 1957, offering a unique insight into the evolution of maritime rescue in the Mediterranean in the first half of the twentieth century.
An evening rich in history, culture, and a passion for the sea, it aroused great interest and stimulated lively discussion among those present.
Congratulations to Paolo Flegar for this important research and dissemination work, which contributes to preserving and enhancing the memory of Trieste's maritime heritage.

IT | Ieri sera il Rotary Club Trieste International ha avuto il piacere di ospitare come relatore l'Avv. Duilio Ferlat, giurista italo-argentino con una lunga esperienza nelle relazioni istituzionali e nell'internazionalizzazione d'impresa tra Europa e America Latina, oggi particolarmente impegnato sui rapporti tra Unione Europea e Mercosur.

Nel corso della serata ha guidato i presenti in un'interessante riflessione sul tema "Mercosur: opportunità e sfide per l'Europa e l'Italia".
Attraverso un'analisi chiara e approfondita, il relatore ha illustrato le principali opportunità e le sfide che l'accordo pone all'Europa e all'Italia, offrendo numerosi spunti di riflessione su un tema di grande attualità. Ne è scaturito un confronto vivace e partecipato, con numerosi interventi e domande da parte dei presenti.

La serata è stata arricchita dalla presenza, oltre che di numerosi soci del Club, di amici rotariani provenienti dagli altri Club cittadini e di diversi ospiti internazionali tra i quali Yuliia Kyrdoda (Ucraina), a conferma della vocazione aperta e internazionale che contraddistingue il Rotary Club Trieste International e dello spirito di amicizia che ne anima le attività.

Un sentito ringraziamento all'Avv. Duilio Ferlat per aver condiviso con noi la sua competenza e a tutti gli ospiti che hanno contribuito a rendere la conviviale un'importante occasione di dialogo, approfondimento e networking.

EN | Last evening, the Rotary Club Trieste International had the pleasure of welcoming Attorney Duilio Ferlat as guest speaker. An Italian-Argentine legal expert with extensive experience in institutional relations and business internationalization between Europe and Latin America, he is currently focused on EU–Mercosur relations.

During the evening, he led an engaging discussion on "Mercosur: Opportunities and Challenges for Europe and Italy."

Through a clear and insightful presentation, Mr. Ferlat explored the key opportunities and challenges that the Mercosur agreement presents for both Europe and Italy, providing valuable perspectives on a highly relevant and timely topic. His presentation sparked a lively and thought-provoking discussion, with many questions and contributions from the audience.

The evening was enriched not only by the participation of many Club members, but also by Rotarian friends from other Rotary Clubs in Trieste and several international guests such as Yuliia Kyrdoda from Ukraine, reflecting the open and international spirit that characterizes the Rotary Club Trieste International and the fellowship that lies at the heart of our activities.

IT | Una storia di amicizia, service e impegno rotariano: Laura Williams ospite del Rotary Club Trieste International

Serata di programmazione della nuova annata con la presidente del Rotary Club Trieste International, Barbara Sepic. Il Club si è riunito lunedì scorso presso il DoubleTree by Hilton di Piazza della Repubblica.

Ospite inattesa ma graditissima è stata l'americana Laura Williams che, in visita a Trieste, ha condiviso la propria testimonianza rotariana con un "Rotary Minute". Dopo aver ricordato il suo anno nello Scambio Giovani in Belgio (1990-1991), ha illustrato l'iniziativa benefica che ha promosso insieme all'amica Karoline Steckley, socia del Rotary Club Trieste International, conosciuta proprio durante quel periodo di scambio.

Diciotto anni dopo, le due si sono ritrovate a Parigi per partecipare alla Maratona di Parigi del 2009, trasformando l'evento in un'importante raccolta fondi a favore del programma PolioPlus della Fondazione Rotary. I 26.000 dollari raccolti, grazie anche al sostegno di diversi club (RC Monfalcone Grado, RC LeRoy, New York, RC Caledonia, New York, e RC Rochester, New York), sono stati raddoppiati da una donazione di pari importo del Distretto Rotary 7120 e successivamente nuovamente raddoppiati grazie al contributo della Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, portando l'importo complessivo donato a oltre 100.000 dollari.
Per i risultati conseguiti, Laura Williams è stata insignita del riconoscimento Paul Harris Fellow.

In occasione di questa riunione, Williams e Steckley hanno inoltre raccontato del loro prossimo viaggio in Belgio, dove torneranno insieme per rievocare i luoghi e le esperienze che hanno dato origine alla loro amicizia e al loro impegno nel Rotary
Un incontro che ha ricordato come amicizia, service e relazioni internazionali possano trasformarsi in progetti concreti capaci di fare la differenza.

EN | A Story of Friendship, Service, and Rotary Commitment: Laura Williams Visits Rotary Club Trieste International

Rotary Club Trieste International gathered last Monday at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Trieste for an evening dedicated to planning the upcoming Rotary year with Club President Barbara Sepic.

A welcome surprise guest was American Laura Williams who was visiting Trieste from LeRoy, New York. Williams shared her Rotary journey during a "Rotary Minute." She recalled her Youth Exchange year in Belgium (1990–1991) and spoke about the charitable initiative she launched together with her friend Karoline Steckley, member of Rotary Club Trieste International, whom she met during that exchange year.

Eighteen years later, the two friends reunited in Paris to run the 2009 Paris Marathon, turning the event into a fundraising campaign in support of The Rotary Foundation's PolioPlus program. The $26,000 they raised, with the support of several Rotary clubs (RC Monfalcone Grado, RC LeRoy, New York, RC Caledonia, New York, and RC Rochester, New York), was matched by Rotary District 7120 and then matched again through the generosity of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, bringing the total contribution to more than $100,000.
In recognition of her achievement, Williams was awarded the Paul Harris Fellow.

Williams and Steckley spoke about their upcoming trip to Belgium, where they will return together to revisit the places and memories that gave rise to their friendship and lifelong commitment to giving back to Rotary.

The evening served as a reminder of how friendship, service, and international connections can grow into meaningful projects that make a lasting difference.

IT | Passaggio del Martello: inizia un nuovo anno di servizio per il Rotary Club Trieste International

Nella suggestiva cornice del DoubleTree by Hilton si è svolta la tradizionale cerimonia del Passaggio del Martello del Rotary Club Trieste International, momento che segna il passaggio delle consegne e l'avvio del nuovo anno rotariano.

Al termine di un anno guidato con competenza, dedizione e passione dal Presidente uscente Paolo Flegar, la Presidenza del Club è stata affidata a Barbara Sepic, che accompagnerà il Rotary Club Trieste International nel prossimo anno rotariano.

La serata, partecipata e ricca di emozioni, ha visto la presenza di numerosi e graditissimi ospiti, la cui partecipazione ha testimoniato la vicinanza al Club e l'apprezzamento per i numerosi service realizzati nel corso dell'anno.

Un momento particolarmente significativo è stato l'ingresso ufficiale nel Club della nuova Socia Elena Pecorari, accolta con la tradizionale cerimonia della spillatura. A Elena va il più caloroso benvenuto nella famiglia del Rotary Club Trieste International, con l'augurio di condividere con entusiasmo i valori del servizio, dell'amicizia e dell'impegno verso la comunità.

Particolarmente significativa è stata inoltre la presenza degli amici dei Club contatto Rotary Club Škofja Loka e Rotary Club Opatija Lungomare, insieme ai rappresentanti dei Rotary Club della città e dell'Isontino e all' Wheel Club di Trieste . Un'amicizia che continua a tradursi in iniziative condivise e progetti concreti, a conferma dello spirito internazionale che caratterizza il nostro Club.

Il Rotary Club Trieste International ringrazia tutti i Soci, gli ospiti e gli amici che hanno preso parte a questo importante momento di vita associativa e augura a Barbara Sepic un anno rotariano ricco di soddisfazioni, progetti e opportunità di servizio.

In the elegant setting of the DoubleTree by Hilton, the Rotary Club Trieste International held its traditional Passing of the Gavel ceremony, marking the transition of leadership and the beginning of a new Rotary year.

Following a year led with dedication, commitment, and passion by outgoing President Paolo Flegar, the presidency of the Club has now been entrusted to Barbara Sepic, who will guide Rotary Club Trieste International through the coming Rotary year.

The evening was well attended and filled with emotion, friendship, and fellowship. Numerous distinguished guests honored the event with their presence, demonstrating their closeness to the Club and their appreciation for the many service projects carried out throughout the year.

A particularly special moment of the evening was the induction and pinning ceremony of our new member, Elena Pecorari. The Club warmly welcomes Elena and looks forward to her contribution to our shared mission of service and fellowship.

Particularly meaningful was the presence of friends from our contact clubs, Rotary Club Škofja Loka and Rotary Club Abbazia Lungomare, together with representatives of the Rotary Clubs of Trieste and the Isontino area. These friendships continue to generate shared initiatives and joint service projects, reflecting the international spirit that is at the heart of our Club.

IT | Il talento di Dafne si trasforma in un service per la scuola grazie al Rotary Club Trieste International

Si è concluso oggi, con la consegna di una targa commemorativa, il service promosso dal Rotary Club Trieste International a favore della Scuola Primaria Suvich, finalizzato alla raccolta di fondi per l'allestimento di uno spazio dedicato ad attività speciali per i bambini.
Protagonista dell'iniziativa è stata Dafne Viola di Rosa, alunna della classe IV A della Scuola Primaria Suvich, vincitrice del primo premio della 44ª edizione del concorso nazionale “ilSognalibro”, promosso dalla rivista Andersen, punto di riferimento nel panorama italiano della letteratura e dell'illustrazione per ragazzi.
Dal suo elaborato vincitore sono state realizzate numerose stampe del “Sognalibro”, che il Rotary Club Trieste International ha deciso di valorizzare proponendole ai soci a fronte di una donazione minima. L'iniziativa ha ottenuto un'ampia adesione e il coinvolgimento dei Rotary Club Alto Adriatico, Rotary Club Trieste e Abbazia Lungomare (Croazia) ha permesso di incrementare ulteriormente la raccolta fondi, confermando il valore della collaborazione tra club nel realizzare progetti a beneficio della comunità.
L'intero ricavato è stato destinato all'acquisto di arredi per creare all'interno della scuola un ambiente accogliente e funzionale, pensato per ospitare laboratori e attività educative speciali.
Questo service rappresenta un esempio concreto di come il talento e la creatività di una giovane studentessa, sostenuti dall'impegno condiviso di più Rotary Club, possano trasformarsi in un risultato tangibile e duraturo a favore dell'intera comunità scolastica.

EN | Dafne’s Talent Becomes a Service Project for the School Thanks to the Rotary Club Trieste International

Today, with the presentation of a commemorative plaque, concluded the service project promoted by the Rotary Club Trieste International in support of Suvich Primary School, aimed at raising funds to create a dedicated space for special activities for children.
The initiative featured Dafne Viola di Rosa, a fourth-grade student at Suvich Primary School, who won first prize in the 44th edition of the national “ilSognalibro” competition, organized by Andersen Magazine, a leading Italian publication in the field of children's literature and illustration.
Numerous prints of Dafne’s award-winning artwork were produced and became the centerpiece of the fundraising initiative. The Rotary Club Trieste International offered these prints to its members in exchange for a minimum donation. The project received strong support, and the involvement of the Rotary Clubs Alto Adriatico, Trieste, and Abbazia Lungomare (Croatia) further increased the funds raised, demonstrating the value of inter-club cooperation in serving the community.
The entire proceeds were used to purchase furniture and furnishings for a welcoming and functional room within the school, designed to host workshops and special educational activities.
This service project is a concrete example of how the talent and creativity of a young student, supported by the shared commitment of several Rotary Clubs, can be transformed into a lasting and meaningful benefit for the entire school community.

IT - ✨ Ieri il Rotary Club Trieste International, rappresentato da Fabio Radetti, presidente emerito, ha partecipato con emozione all’inaugurazione della nuova sede polifunzionale “Il Nido di Sveva” iotifosveva progetto nato alcuni anni fa da una dolorosa vicenda che ha coinvolto una bambina colpita da una malattia oncologica.

Dall’esperienza e dal coraggio dei suoi genitori è nato un importante percorso di sostegno dedicato alle famiglie che vivono situazioni simili, capace nel tempo di coinvolgere numerose realtà pubbliche e associative del territorio.

La struttura inaugurata ieri rappresenta un luogo di accoglienza e condivisione, con spazi dedicati all’ospitalità, al gioco, al cinema e alla musica, pensati per offrire serenità e vicinanza ai bambini e alle loro famiglie.

Siamo particolarmente orgogliosi del contributo del nostro Socio Guido Vales, ingegnere e specialista tra i più qualificati del settore, che ha messo a disposizione la propria competenza progettuale e operativa per l’attenuazione acustica della sala musica e della batteria, incarnando pienamente il più autentico spirito rotariano di servizio.

La mattinata è stata anche una preziosa occasione di incontro tra i rappresentanti dei sei Rotary Club della Venezia Giulia, promotori dell’iniziativa. Un sentito ringraziamento va al Past President del Rotary Club Gorizia, Francesco Delli Zotti, coordinatore del service, per il grande impegno e la dedizione dimostrati in questi anni.

Presenti naturalmente anche i genitori di Sveva, ai quali rivolgiamo il nostro affetto e la nostra vicinanza. La loro forza ha trasformato il dolore in un progetto concreto di speranza e solidarietà.

EN - ✨ Yesterday, the Rotary Club Trieste International, represented by Past President Fabio Radetti, took part with deep emotion in the inauguration of the new multifunctional facility “Il Nido di Sveva”, a project born several years ago from the painful story of a young girl affected by an oncological disease.

From the experience and courage of her parents, an important support initiative was created to help families facing similar situations, gradually involving numerous public institutions and local associations.

The facility inaugurated yesterday is a place of welcome and sharing, featuring areas dedicated to hospitality, play, cinema, and music, designed to offer comfort and closeness to children and their families.

We are especially proud of the contribution made by our member Guido Vales, engineer and one of the most highly qualified specialists in the field, who provided his professional expertise and operational support for the acoustic attenuation of the music and drum room, fully embodying the true Rotary spirit of service.

The morning also represented a valuable opportunity for representatives of the six Rotary Clubs of Venezia Giulia, promoters of the initiative, to come together. Special thanks go to Francesco Delli Zotti, Past President of the Rotary Club Gorizia and coordinator of the service project, for his great commitment and dedication over the years.

Sveva’s parents were naturally present as well, and we extend to them our affection and closeness. Their strength has transformed pain into a concrete project of hope and solidarity.

IT - Ieri sera il Rotary Club Trieste International ha vissuto una conviviale intensa e ricca di spunti di riflessione, grazie all’intervento di Don Daniele Scorrano parroco della Chiesa Notre Dame de Sion.

Partendo dai principi e dalle quattro domande del Rotary International, il relatore ci ha accompagnati in una riflessione profonda sul significato del servizio: servire gli altri non è solo un gesto verso la comunità, ma anche un percorso che aiuta ciascuno di noi a conoscere meglio sé stesso e a sentirsi parte di qualcosa di più grande.

Nel suo intervento, Don Scorrano ha richiamato anche lo Zibaldone di Giacomo Leopardi, dove la “noia” viene definita “il più sublime dei sentimenti umani”: non semplice inattività o pigrizia, ma la percezione del vuoto esistenziale e della distanza tra il desiderio infinito di felicità dell’uomo e la finitezza delle cose terrene. Un desiderio profondo, mai completamente soddisfatto, che interpella ciascuno di noi.

Da questa riflessione è nato un dialogo autentico sul tempo che stiamo vivendo, sull’importanza dell’ascolto, della vicinanza umana e del valore del mettersi al servizio degli altri come risposta concreta ai bisogni della nostra società.

Una serata di confronto, ascolto e condivisione che ha lasciato a tutti noi preziosi spunti di crescita personale e rotariana, arricchita dalla presenza di Domiziana Avanzini, presidente di Inner Wheel Club di Trieste e di diversi ospiti.

EN - Last night, the Rotary Club Trieste International experienced an inspiring and thought-provoking fellowship meeting thanks to the speech delivered by Don Daniele Scorrano of the Notre Dame de Sion Church.

Starting from the principles and the Four-Way Test of Rotary International, the speaker guided us through a deep reflection on the meaning of service: serving others is not only an act towards the community, but also a journey that helps us better understand ourselves and feel part of something greater.

During his talk, Don Scorrano also referred to Giacomo Leopardi’s *Zibaldone*, where “boredom” is described as “the most sublime of human feelings” — not as mere laziness or inactivity, but as the perception of an existential void and of the unbridgeable gap between humanity’s infinite desire for happiness and the finiteness of earthly things. It is the absence of both pleasure and pain, a pure longing for happiness that can never be fully satisfied.

From this reflection emerged an authentic conversation about the times we are living in, the importance of welcoming others, human closeness, and the value of serving as a concrete response to the needs of our society.

An evening of dialogue, listening, and sharing that left all of us with meaningful insights for both personal and Rotary growth, enriched by the presence of Domiziana Avanzini, president of the Inner Wheel Club of Trieste, and several guests.
