Strengthening connections between local agriculture and the hospitality sector was at the heart of the Joint Workshop and Networking Event for Local Farmers, Hotels and Restaurants, organized by the Chamber of Commerce in cooperation with the WB6 Chamber Investment Forum (WB6 CIF) and with the support of the European Commission.

The event brought together local farmers, food producers, hotels, and restaurants to explore new business opportunities, promote locally produced food, and encourage stronger local supply chains.

💬 Through product presentations, networking sessions, and B2B meetings, participants exchanged ideas, discussed market needs, and established valuable business connections that can lead to long-term partnerships between producers and the HoReCa sector.

By supporting collaboration between agriculture and hospitality, this initiative contributes to stronger local economies, more resilient supply chains, and new opportunities for businesses across the region.

💼 The WB6 CIF Joint Workshop at GITEX AI Berlin aimed to create new opportunities for ICT companies and startups from the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.

Participants had the opportunity to present their companies, share expertise, and explore potential partnerships with regional and international stakeholders. 🚀

The workshop also highlighted the region’s young, tech-oriented talent and the opportunity to connect South-East European engineering skills with Western European markets. 💡

🚀 During GITEX AI Berlin, WB6 CIF brought together ICT companies and startups from the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia for a joint business workshop focused on strengthening cooperation, innovation, and new opportunities.

The session gathered chamber representatives, ICT associations, companies, and partners to discuss market potential, business connections, and the role of GITEX in linking the participating economies with international opportunities. 🌍

Key messages highlighted the strength of a young, tech-oriented region, the proximity of the economies, and the potential to connect South-East European engineering skills with Western European buyers and partners. 💡

The workshop continued with company presentations, B2B meetings, and networking, creating space for direct business exchange and future partnerships. 🤝

The first WB6 CIF Working Group meeting under the project “Green Transformation: Circular Economy in the Western Balkans” was held in Budva on 24 June 2026, following the Circular Economy Stakeholder Platform hosted by the Regional Cooperation Council - RCC

The project is implemented by GIZ in cooperation with WB6 CIF, on behalf of the German Government, within the Regional Climate Partnership between Germany and the Western Balkans. It aims to lay the foundations for a regional circular economy by strengthening policy frameworks, building institutional capacities, and fostering cooperation between public institutions, municipalities, and the private sector. The initiative supports the transition from fragmented waste management and linear resource use towards regional circular material flows and circular business models aligned with EU standards.

The meeting opened with a presentation of the project framework and the partnership between GIZ, WB6 CIF, Network of Associations of Local Authorities of South-East Europe (NALAS), and Regional Cooperation Council - RCC . ♻️

This was followed by a presentation from Dr. Henning Wilts of the Wuppertal Institute, who shared EU experiences in developing circular material flows, focusing on circular strategies, market opportunities, material flow analysis, priority action areas, and examples of circular cities and regions across Europe.

Sinisa Mitrovic, circular economy expert from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, presented the private sector perspective on green transition and circular economy in the Western Balkans. His session covered the shift from linear to circular economic models, key EU regulatory frameworks such as the European Green Deal, CBAM, CSRD, and the Digital Product Passport, as well as circularity measurement tools and real-life examples of industrial symbiosis and circular business models.

Upcoming activities, presented by Muela Ibrahimi, Director of the Department for Economy and Innovation at the Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, will focus on validating the market assessment for three circular material flows, conducting in-depth analysis of two regional business models, and continuing data collection across the region. 📊

🌿 WB6 Green and Circular Economy Stakeholders Platform Meeting

On 23 June 2026, the WB6 Green and Circular Economy Stakeholders Platform meeting was held in Budva, Montenegro, bringing together regional and European institutions, experts, private sector representatives, and key stakeholders working on the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

The meeting focused on the region’s green and circular transition, priority actions for 2026, and the importance of stronger regional cooperation. Participants discussed key challenges, upcoming deliverables, and practical steps to support more effective implementation across the WB6.

A key topic was the development of effective Extended Producer Responsibility systems for plastic packaging, including the proposed WB6 EPR Plastic Packaging Framework, EU and international good practices, and next steps for adoption and rollout in the region.

Discussions also addressed the phase-out of priority single-use plastics, highlighting the need for coordinated action, stronger policy measures, and practical tools to reduce plastic pollution.

The meeting reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing the circular economy and supporting the implementation of the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans. ♻️🌍

Over the course of two days in Vienna, representatives of WB6 CIF and Western Balkans Chambers of Commerce, Professional Accountancy Organizations, technology experts, and SMEs from across the Western Balkans convened to discuss key priorities related to digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and the strengthening of SME competitiveness.

WB6 CIF Secretary General had the opportunity to contribute to these discussions, focusing on the role of innovation, digitalization, and modern financial management practices in enhancing the resilience and growth potential of small and medium-sized enterprises in our region.

The workshop was particularly valuable due to its practical orientation, emphasizing not only the exchange of knowledge and experience, but also the identification of concrete avenues for strengthened cooperation between chambers of commerce, the accountancy profession, international financial institutions, and the private sector. The World Bank Group’s continued commitment to supporting SMEs—through improved access to finance, investment promotion, enhanced corporate governance, and digital transformation—represents a strong foundation for future progress.

Importantly, the discussions resulted in a number of promising ideas with the potential to be further developed into regional initiatives and partnerships in the period ahead.

We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the World Bank and all participants for the excellent organization, constructive dialogue, and collaborative spirit throughout the workshop.

Branko Azeski, President of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, has been appointed Acting President of the Western Balkans 6 Chamber Investment Forum. As someone who has supported this initiative from the very beginning and has been actively involved since its establishment, Branko Azeski brings valuable experience to the Association’s leadership.

Having previously chaired the Association of Balkan Chambers (ABC) twice, served as Vice President of WB6 CIF for 11 years, and led the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia for more than two decades, Mr. Azeski brings extensive experience, strong regional engagement, and a deep understanding of the needs of the private sector.

At the Managing Board meeting held in Belgrade, he was unanimously elected with a mandate to lead a comprehensive reform process aimed at strengthening the organizational structure of WB6 CIF and enhancing the role of its Business Council, which brings together some of the region’s largest companies. The reforms are expected to further improve the Forum’s effectiveness as a key driver of regional economic integration and business cooperation.

The meeting also resulted in several important decisions, including the establishment of Thematic Working Groups for the implementation of WB6 CIF projects and the launch of preparations for a feasibility study on a Regional Training and Certification Centre, supported by the German DevelopmentBank (KfW).

Since its establishment under the Berlin Process, WB6 CIF has played a vital role in promoting regional cooperation, facilitating dialogue between the public and private sectors, and advancing initiatives that contribute to a more competitive and integrated Western Balkans economy.

WB6 CIF Secretary General David Piegazki visited the Central European Initiative - CEI Secretariat in Trieste for a productive exchange on opportunities for future cooperation.

The meeting focused on shared priorities related to regional economic integration, connectivity, and support for the business community, as well as potential joint initiatives and events that could contribute to stronger regional cooperation.

WB6 CIF values partnerships with organizations that share a common commitment to fostering economic development, strengthening regional ties, and supporting the European integration process.

Great energy and productive discussions during the two-day meeting Organized by the WB6 CIF and ERI SEE on Human Capital Development under the Common Regional Market Action Plan.

Chamber experts from the Western Balkans and the Director of , Sandra Brkanovic, met to define the next steps for the development of common regional occupational standards for VET curricula. 📚

Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between chambers, SMEs, and education institutions through better alignment of VET curricula with labour market needs, development of common occupational standards, and improving workforce mobility across the region.

👩‍💻 The meeting was part of broader regional efforts to strengthen skills development and create a more connected labour market that responds to the real needs of businesses and future workforce demands.

WB6 CIF participated on 12 May in a high-level panel discussion organized by the OECD at the presentation of the OECD SME Policy Index for the Western Balkans and Türkiye 2026.

David Piegazki, WB6 CIF Secretary General, highlighted the importance of regional cooperation and green skills development in supporting the green transition and long-term competitiveness of SMEs across the Western Balkans.

A key message emphasized that green skills shortages are not only a labour market issue, but increasingly a competitiveness challenge for SMEs, particularly in the context of the region’s integration into EU value chains and alignment with the European Green Deal and the Green Agenda for the Western Balkans.

Particular emphasis was placed on:
🔸 stronger alignment between education systems and labour market needs
🔸 reskilling and upskilling in green and digital sectors
🔸 regional cooperation in vocational education and training
🔸 practical support mechanisms for SMEs through partnerships between businesses, education institutions, and policymakers
🔸 synergy between public and private investments in green transition

WB6 CIF also highlighted the importance of regional initiatives such as the Regional Challenge Fund, which supports cooperation between companies and VET providers to address concrete skills needs across the Western Balkans.

The discussion reaffirmed that strengthening green skills, innovation, and regional cooperation will be essential for ensuring the long-term competitiveness and resilience of SMEs in the region. 🤝
