AccoglieRete, associazione per la tutela dei minori stranieri non accompagnati (MSNA), nasce nel luglio 2013 da persone appartenenti ad un gruppo di associazioni di volontariato e comunità attive a Siracusa ed è la prima associazione operante sul territorio italiano a promuovere il ruolo di tutore legale per i minori strani

AccoglieRete sostiene la figura del tutore legale come risorsa fondamentale per permettere al ragazzo straniero solo di uscire da una forzata condizione di anonimato, dandogli voce e creando i presupposti per l'individuazione di percorsi di integrazione individualizzati. AccoglieRete supporta i minori stranieri non accompagnati fin dalla fase della prima accoglienza attraverso un servizio di accompagnamento legale, mediazione culturale e assistenza psicologica. Mette inoltre in rete associazioni, cittadini e famiglie che offrono accoglienza diffusa e supportano i minori lungo un personale percorso di integrazione educativo e culturale. In July 2013, a group of volunteers active in various communities across the Sicilian town of Syracuse came together to found AccoglieRete with the goal of promoting the role of legal guardians for UFMs* seeking refuge in Italy. AccoglieRete is the first organisation of its kind in Italy. UFMs are Unaccompanied Foreign Minors, under 18 year olds who come to Italy to seek refuge without their family. AccoglieRete became an association in 2014 - today the network counts 150 legal guardians, with more than 10 foster families. Since its founding, 35 minors have been placed with foster families in southern Sicily. All guardian activities are done on a voluntary basis. More than 1,200 UFMs have received support from AccoglieRete so far. In 2015, thanks to the hard work of guardians and UFMs, the rate of disappearance from reception centres fell by 50%. AccoglieRete supports legal guardians as a crucial foundation for UFMs who arrive in Italy, allowing them to build their lives after the trauma of their arrival, supporting them to claim their rights, to express their voices and to establish their needs - to develop their individual lives in Italy. AccoglieRete supports UFMs from their arrival on Italian soil, helping them to pursue their case through the legal system, with the support of cultural mediators alongside some psychological help. AccoglieRete brings together associations, citizens and families to offer an extensive welcome for UFMs throughout their individual integration into education as well as Italian culture.
