E tu, quale indosseresti o regaleresti a chi ami?

|

Jewels suspended between botany and fine jewellery. These two creations are among the masterpieces of René Lalique, the celebrated French jeweller and glassmaker of the early 20th century, who revolutionised jewellery design and transformed Art Nouveau into an art form to be worn.

His stroke of genius? Capturing the beauty of nature and giving glass, enamel, ivory and horn the same artistic standing as gold and diamonds.

And so, orchidelirium found its way into the world of jewellery, too.

Which one would you wear, or give to someone you love?

|

For the EOC Rome 2027 Gala Dinner, we have chosen a setting filled with charm, in the hills just beyond Rome, amid the beautiful landscapes of the Castelli Romani.

|

Our destination is Casale Baldetti, a historic residence surrounded by greenery, with a 15th-century hall, Roman archaeological remains, elegant gardens and a view over the Eternal City that is worth the journey in itself.

|

The evening will begin in the gardens with a taste of authentic Italian hospitality:

🍕 La Pizza, freshly prepared before your eyes beside a traditional wood-fired oven
🥩 Il Norcino, with a selection of local cured meats
🧀 Il Pastore, dedicated to traditional regional cheeses

What if your next orchid adventure took you into the wild heart of Italy?

In late May, the Apennines burst into colour.
Wild orchids bloom across mountain meadows and limestone landscapes, alongside wild peonies, irises, gentians and lilies.

From the Monte Subasio Regional Park to the Sibillini Mountains, from the spectacular Piana di Castelluccio to the striking Lame Rosse and the Frasassi Caves.

And in between, some of Umbria and Marche’s most extraordinary places: Assisi, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, medieval Spello, Norcia, Colfiorito and Rasiglia, the “Little Venice of Umbria”.

Eight days of wild orchids, spectacular landscapes, culture and Italian flavours.

24–31 May 2027 | 8 days / 7 nights

Discover the Apennines with EOC Rome 2027.

Cinderella wasn’t the first to lose her favourite slipper.

Long before her, Venus lost one during a storm in the woods. When a mortal found it, the gods decided that a divine slipper certainly couldn’t end up in the wrong hands.

So they turned it into a flower: Cypripedium calceolus, the famous Venus’s slipper.

Today, it is at risk of extinction and strictly protected: its habitat is increasingly threatened, it grows slowly, and its reproduction is far from easy.

If you're lucky enough to spot one in the woods, take as many photos as you like, but don't pick it. It won't survive.

Looking to enrich your orchid collection? Here is a classic that is a must-have: Phalaenopsis stuartiana and its yellow variant.

Two interpretations of the same botanical structure: the same silvery leaves, the same airy habit, and the same spotted pattern on the petals. Yet, the color changes the character.

The classic species, with its pale tones, is elegant and understated. The yellow form brings warmth and radiance.

🇮🇹|🇬🇧

|

Let's be honest: no one, looking at an orchid, thinks about its etymology. Yet the story is delightfully embarrassing. It was Theophrastus, a student of Aristotle, who named it this way in his botanical treatise, inspired by the shape of the two tubers at the base of the roots.

That's right: in Greek, orchis refers to the shape of the male reproductive organs.

The most elegant flower in our homes has carried a locker room name for 2,300 years. The next time you water your Phalaenopsis, you'll probably crack a smile.

Over the coming months, we’ll uncover some of the most fascinating, and occasionally rather “scandalous”, stories, curiosities and anecdotes surrounding a phenomenon that has captivated generations and crossed centuries to reach us today.
