HOW CAN WE HELP HUMANITY?
How can we really help humanity?
How many of you are willing to step forward and get involved, rather than simply talking about it?
Every day, when we read newspapers or listen to the news, we are shocked by increasingly worrying phenomena: groups of young people involved in bullying, alcohol abuse, drug use and, even more seriously, involving other young people in these behaviours.
The world has truly changed. But can we still do something?
Should we only educate our children?
Or should we also first help parents, who were once children themselves and perhaps, during their own journey of growth, did not receive all the support they needed?
How can we help both?
I believe that a possibility exists.
Not a utopia, but a reality.
Not just words, but action.
Everything naturally begins with the family. It is within the family that a young person receives his first lessons. Then come school, institutions and society.
But there can also be a secular, educational and voluntary form of support, capable of giving young people an additional opportunity in their journey of growth.
A journey toward freedom.
A journey toward inner growth.
A journey in which a young person can meet other young people and learn to understand and live by fundamental values.
This is precisely one of the objectives of the International Order of DeMolay.
Its seven fundamental principles, the Seven Cardinal Virtues, accompany young men throughout their journey of personal growth:
Filial Love – learning to love, respect and recognize the value of one’s family and those who have raised us.
Reverence for Sacred Things – respecting one’s own faith and the spiritual beliefs of others, without imposing any particular creed.
Courtesy – learning to respect every person with kindness, dignity and consideration.
Comradeship – building genuine friendships while learning solidarity, cooperation and mutual respect.
Fidelity – becoming people whom others can rely upon, keeping one’s word and accepting responsibility for one’s actions.
Purity – living with integrity in thoughts, words and actions, while respecting oneself and others.
Patriotism – loving and serving one’s country while, at the same time, respecting other peoples, their cultures and their dignity.
These principles must not remain words written on a page.
They must be lived.
And this is where the adult also has an important role.
Because accompanying a young person on his journey of growth requires adults who are able to listen, educate, guide and, above all, lead by example.
A DeMolay Advisor is not simply a volunteer who organizes activities.
An Advisor is an adult who chooses to offer his or her time, experience, patience and heart to accompany young men on their journey toward responsibility and leadership.
And perhaps this is the question I want to ask you personally:
ARE YOU READY FOR THIS MISSION?
Wherever you are, in any part of the world.
If you believe that a new generation can grow with greater love, responsibility, respect, friendship and a sense of justice, you too can become part of this journey.
Become a DeMolay Advisor.
You will receive appropriate training to obtain recognition as a Volunteer Adult Advisor, gaining the knowledge and tools necessary to accompany and support young men in the correct and responsible way.
If you are interested in becoming involved in a country where a DeMolay Jurisdiction already exists and there are active Chapters, your request will be referred directly to the appropriate Jurisdiction, which will guide you through the process according to its own procedures.
If, on the other hand, there is no existing DeMolay Jurisdiction in your country, your request will be followed directly by me, and I will provide the necessary support and guidance for the next steps.
We do not promise to change the world in one day.
But we can help one young man at a time.
And perhaps, precisely from those young men, the men and leaders capable of building a more responsible society will emerge — leaders who will defend human dignity, reject injustice and understand that wars between peoples cannot be the future of humanity.
The new generation needs someone who believes in them.
