🌍 What does it take to accelerate Africa's energy transition?

From large-scale electrification and the strategic role of critical minerals to investment de-risking, local value creation, and the skills needed to drive the energy transition, Africa's sustainable energy future depends on bold partnerships, long-term vision, and inclusive development. ⚡

In a recent interview with Urania News, our Secretary General, Roberto Vigotti, explores these key challenges and opportunities, highlighting the importance of public-private cooperation, proactive development finance, and equitable partnerships to accelerate Africa's energy transition and strengthen collaboration between Africa, Europe, and Italy within the framework of the Piano Mattei. 🤝

The conversation also underscores why investing in local talent—through executive education, vocational training, and capacity building—is essential to ensuring that Africa's clean energy transition is driven by people, skills, and long-term impact. 🎓

📌 How can Italy become a clean energy hub in the Mediterranean while building stronger partnerships with North African countries?

ECCO think tank and RES4Africa Foundation are pleased to launch the policy brief "Italy as a Clean Energy Hub in the Mediterranean – Reconciling Opportunities and Challenges with North African Partners", developed with the support of the Unit for Analysis, Policy Planning, Statistics and Historical Documentation of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

🔎 Based on over 40 interviews across Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt, the brief explores how Italy can strengthen its role in one of the world's fastest-evolving clean energy regions.

3 key findings from the report include:
🔹 North African energy transition markets are evolving rapidly, with investment ecosystems, industrial partnerships and strategic positioning accelerating across the region.
🔹 Partner expectations are consistent: long-term commitment, integrated cooperation, local value creation, capacity strengthening and institutional predictability.
🔹 Italy needs to translate political ambition into a more coordinated, long-term and country-specific operational presence, through a new energy-transition diplomacy anchored in industrial strategy and supported by a competitive financial offer.

🌍The brief sets out six cross-cutting recommendations, alongside country-specific priorities to help Italy build tailored partnerships with Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Egypt.

Investing in renewable energy also means investing in people.🌍

On the 7th of July, Olivia Origlia, Senior Communications Events Specialist at RES4Africa Foundation, joined the Italy–Morocco Dialogue on Innovation, Cooperation and the Ecological & Energy Transition for a Shared Green Future in Casablanca, contributing to the panel "Human Capital: The Invisible Infrastructure of Energy Efficiency."

During her intervention, Olivia explored why human capital is one of the most strategic enablers of energy efficiency. While technological innovation and infrastructure are essential, achieving a successful and lasting energy transition also requires investing in the people who will design, implement and drive these solutions forward.💡

Highlighting the importance of skills development, hashtag engagement, women's empowerment and local innovation ecosystems, she shared how strengthening human capital leads to more resilient energy systems, greater innovation and a more inclusive transition.🎓

Drawing on RES4Africa's experience across the continent, Olivia also showcased the Foundation's commitment to building local capacities through technical and managerial training programmes, knowledge exchange and multi-stakeholder collaboration, while highlighting Morocco's growing role as a regional hub for clean energy innovation and talent development. 🌍

Thank you to , KEY - The Energy Transition Expo, Italian Exhibition Group, and the - Italian Trade Agency for convening this important dialogue and fostering stronger cooperation between Italy and Morocco in support of a shared sustainable energy future.🤝
