🪷“You see things in the dream, but you also feel something…”

📖We are pleased to announce the release of the exhibition catalogue for Portia Zvavahera’s solo show at .

This publication documents the artist’s first institutional exhibition in Italy, featuring a site-specific installation alongside a new body of paintings developed during her residency in Rome.

“Together, these works mark a significant phase in Zvavahera’s recent research, in which autobiographical experience opens onto a broader meditation on memory, loss, and transcendence. [...] The resulting works are populated by spectral figures caught in states of ecstasy, metamorphosis, or emotional tension - a language that dissolves the boundaries between the tangible and the spiritual, and transforms intimate experience into something that resonates far beyond the personal.” — Alessio Antoniolli

✨A dream. A sketch. A painting that reveals itself only in the making.

Portia Zvavahera in conversation with Alessio Antoniolli on the process of bringing dreams to life on canvas, and the trust it takes to let a painting find its own way:

“You see things in the dream, but you also feel something. So you want to bring out the feeling together with the vision”.

This conversation will be published in the forthcoming catalogue edited by Fondazione Memmo and designed by

🌷A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined the opening of Portia Zvavahera’s exhibition, curated by Alessio Antoniolli.

The exhibition is now open to the public and we look forward to welcoming you throughout this weekend.

Visitors can explore a site-specific installation conceived especially for the Foundation’s spaces, alongside a new body of paintings developed during Zvavahera’s residency in Rome. These works position personal experience—such as the passing of the artist’s grandmother—as a structure that intertwines with daily emotions, where joy and anxiety remain in constant dialogue with memory and the presence of heaven.

Portia Zvavahera, Like Flowers We Fade
curated by Alessio Antoniolli

For her solo exhibition at Fondazione Memmo, Portia Zvavahera develops an intimate and reflective body of work centered on the passing of her grandmother. This loss remains active in her inner life, resurfacing repeatedly through dreams. The exhibition connects this personal experience to broader contemplations on heaven and its imagined presence as a guiding, symbolic layer within earthly life. Rather than treating these ideas as abstract, the works position them as structures that intertwine with lived experience - where daily emotions, including joy and anxiety, remain in constant dialogue with memory and absence.
