🕯️ Remembrance Speech for December 15, 2013

For the Nuer Community

Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters of the Nuer community,

Today we gather with heavy hearts as we mark December 15 — a day that carries deep pain for our people. On this day in 2013, many innocent Nuer men, women, and children lost their lives. Families were torn apart, and our community was shaken in ways that still affect us today.

We stand here not only to mourn, but to honor their memory.
We speak their names in our hearts.
We remember their stories.
And we carry their legacy with dignity.

As Nuer people, we have always been known for our strength, our courage, and our unity. Even in the face of tragedy, we rise together. Our sorrow does not break us — it binds us.

Today we commit ourselves to:

Supporting the families who still carry this pain,

Keeping alive the memory of our loved ones,

Strengthening unity within the Nuer community,

And walking a path that protects our people from such suffering ever again.

Let this day remind us of the value of every Nuer life.
Let it remind us of the resilience that lives in our culture, our traditions, and our hearts.

May the souls of those we lost rest in peace.
May their memory guide us.
And may the Nuer community continue to stand strong, united, and unwavering.
