A strong recognition of Confprofessioni at European level 🇪🇺

We are proud to share that our Project Manager, Martina Gherlenda, was invited to speak at the Social Protection Workshop in Brussels, contributing to the session on “Stakeholders’ recommendations”.

On 29 April, she presented the key results and policy recommendations of the SP4SE project, bringing Confprofessioni’s voice into a high-level European discussion.

This invitation was more than just a speaking slot — it represented a clear acknowledgment of the impact and credibility Confprofessioni has built within the European social dialogue and policy landscape.

We are shaping the conversation on social protection in Europe — and this is just the beginning.

Stay tuned for more updates from Brussels.

🌍 European Briefing | SP4SE Project

Key Insight

"Liberal professionals are no longer a marginal phenomenon. They are a structural pillar of the European labour market—yet they remain the least protected. The SP4SE project shows us that where social partners are recognised and engaged, social protection becomes more effective, fair, and responsive. We need binding commitments, new alliances, and a European framework that puts dignity and inclusion at the heart of the self-employed experience."
— Natali , President of Confprofessioni

🔎 The SP4SE conference on 26th June highlighted the crucial role of liberal professionals in shaping fairer and more inclusive labour policies across Europe.

🌍 High-Level Reflection | The Future of Social Protection
Key Insight

"The 2019 Council Recommendation urged Member States to extend social protection to the self-employed too — yet the 2023 monitoring shows that critical gaps persist. That’s why a high-level group is now working to rethink the very meaning of social security in a changing world of work. Soft law alone is not enough: it’s time to move forward, strengthening the role of social partners through the European Pact for Social Dialogue.”
— Annamaria Matarazzo, Social Attaché, Permanent Representation of Italy to the EU

📌 A timely reflection on how social protection must evolve to meet the challenges of new work models, transnational collaboration, and long-term sustainability.

🌍 Final Conference | SP4SE Project

Key Insight

“The SP4SE project stems from the awareness that social protection systems, designed for standard employment, often leave vulnerable self-employed professionals uncovered. Its goal is to build a shared model and concrete tools to innovate and adapt protections to the new realities of independent intellectual work.”
— Martina Gherlenda, Project Manager, Confprofessioni

🎉 Yesterday, the Final Conference of the SP4SE – Social Protection for Professional Self-Employed Project took place in partnership with the EESC - European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels — a powerful moment to share the results of two years of work, learning, and collaboration.

Co-funded by the European Union and coordinated by Confprofessioni, SP4SE has shown that social dialogue is more than a consultative mechanism: it is a powerful driver of implementation and innovation in welfare systems.

The conference gathered EU institutions, social partners, and experts to reflect on what we achieved together:
✅ Strengthened the capacities of the national social partners
📚 Developed concrete tools and policy recommendations
🔄 Built a transferable model adaptable to different national contexts
🤝 Fostered meaningful collaboration between stakeholders

A key takeaway from the conference? Inclusive social protection requires more than legislation — it needs strong networks and the capacity to act. SP4SE shows that soft law instruments can be effective when supported by a community ready to translate them into practice.

We are proud to have laid the groundwork for a shared vision and a practical roadmap that can empower self-employed professionals throughout Europe.

Thank you to all the speakers, partners, and participants who made this event — and the entire project — a collective success.
