🌟 We continue our monthly format “Every action matters: VIDES International network around the world”! The VIDES group is present in more than 50 countries worldwide, and we want to share with you their stories! This month we talk to you about VIDES Dominican Republic 🇩🇴

🤝 Throughout the years, VIDES Dominican Republic has carried out activities with vulnerable communities, reaching hundreds of children and young people through youth missions, prevention and child protection awareness initiatives, pastoral animation, and volunteer service. The growing involvement of young volunteers reflects the desire of a new generation to become protagonists of positive change in their communities.

🌍 With the commitment of 35 local volunteers and the support of the Salesian Family, VIDES Dominican Republic continues building spaces of inclusion, participation, and care for others. Together, we believe that educating, accompanying, and serving young people is a concrete way to build a more supportive and compassionate society, where every child and young person can grow with dignity and hope.

💪Together, we can bring change! Stay tuned for the next VIDES group!

🌍 On this World Environment Day, we renew our commitment to caring for our common home, inspired by the values of the Gospel and the message of Pope Francis in Laudato Si’. As a Salesian-rooted organization, VIDES Internazionale believes that protecting creation is inseparable from promoting human dignity, solidarity, and justice for the most vulnerable communities.

🌱 Through our projects around the world, we actively promote sustainable agriculture, environmental education, responsible use of natural resources, and community resilience. Together with local partners and young people, we work to build a future where development respects both people and the planet, ensuring that no one is left behind.

🤝 Guided by the spirit of Laudato Si’, we encourage everyone to embrace an “integral ecology” that connects care for the environment with care for humanity. At VIDES International, we believe that every small action can become a seed of hope, empowering communities and future generations to live in harmony with creation.

Today, we echo the words of Farida Shaheed , UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, who reminds us of a powerful truth: education should not be something simply delivered to young people, it must be co-created with them.

🗣Across the world, children and youth are calling for a greater role in shaping the systems that affect their lives. Participation is a core component of the right to education. When young people are recognized not only as learners, but as rights-holders and partners, education becomes more inclusive, relevant, and transformative.
To advance this vision, Farida Shaheed launched the Right to Education Youth Network , a global platform that brings together children and young people to actively contribute to the realization of the right to education.

Their voices, ideas, and experiences are essential to building education systems that truly reflect the needs and aspirations of the next generation.

As we continue to highlight youth engagement in human rights, let us remember: meaningful participation is not a privilege - it is a right.

And when young people help shape education, they help shape a better future for us all. 🌍📚

Today, we share the recent achievements of the ongoing project “Enhancing Sustainable Food Security, Improving Women’s Livelihoods and Strengthening Smallholders in Kenya”, funded by the Italian Presidency of the Council of Ministers through the 8x1000 IRPEF contribution, supporting local farming communities through practical, field-based training.

In the month of March, farmers took part in visits to demonstration farms in Siakago and North Horr, where they observed and practiced key techniques such as crop management, irrigation, and pest control. These hands-on sessions helped them apply new knowledge directly to their own farms and kitchen gardens.

Demonstration farms also served as spaces for exchange and peer learning, while regular meetings with community mobilizers strengthened coordination and ensured continuous support to beneficiaries. These moments allowed for sharing progress, addressing challenges, and planning follow-up actions at community level.

Follow-up visits by the social worker and mobilizers provided on-site guidance and helped monitor the adoption of improved practices. This approach reinforced accountability and supported farmers in building more sustainable and resilient livelihoods.

🌍 On World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development, VIDES Internazionale celebrates the richness of cultural diversity and the power of dialogue in fostering mutual understanding. Working across different countries and contexts, we encounter a wide variety of cultures, traditions, and perspectives that shape the communities we serve.

🤝 Our initiatives promote inclusion, participation, and respect, creating spaces where children, young people, and communities can learn from one another and grow together. Through education, community engagement, and capacity-building activities, we support environments where diversity is valued as a strength and dialogue becomes a pathway to peace and development.

🫂 This day reminds us of the importance of building bridges across cultures and promoting a spirit of openness and respect. By embracing diversity in all its forms, we continue to work towards a world where every individual is valued and every community has the opportunity to thrive.

Today, we share one last testimony from our ongoing CEI-funded project in the Northern Zambia Village of Luwingu 🇿🇲 in collaboration with the Salesian Sisters of the AFM Province!

The testimony comes from Onis Kabula, a former student at the Valponasca training Farm who is now working at the Don Bosco Primary School in Mansa, run by the Salesian Sisters. Here, he works in the school garden, applying also the knowledge he acquired at the Training Farm.

This three-year project, funded by the CEI - Conferenza Episcopale Italiana, seeks to address the numerous social challenges faced daily by young men and women, including limited access to education and employment opportunities, which often contribute to conditions of poverty.

Through the establishment of the Farmers’ Training Center, small-scale farmers and local youth will gain practical skills in specialized agricultural production, sustainable farming methods, and agribusiness management, thereby enhancing income-generating opportunities and strengthening food and nutrition security within the district.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦On International Day of Families, we recognize the essential role families play in building strong and resilient communities. For VIDES Internazionale, families are at the heart of our work, especially in the contexts where we support children and young people through education, protection, and community-based initiatives. Even in challenging environments, families remain a key source of care, stability, and hope.

🤝 Through our projects, we have worked alongside the Salesian Sisters and local communities to support parents and caregivers, strengthen educational opportunities, and promote safe and nurturing environments for children. From study centers to psychosocial support activities, these initiatives have helped families grow stronger together and better support the development of the next generation.

🧡 This day is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to accompanying families in their daily challenges, recognizing their central role in shaping a more just and compassionate society. By investing in families, we contribute to lasting change that extends far beyond individual communities.
