For fans of Maiden, Crimson Glory, classic Metallica. AZRAEL - Heavy Metal · Since 1988
Azrael were formed in late 1988 in Rapallo, on the Ligurian coast between Genoa and Recco, when Alessandro "Ale" Arbocò pinned handwritten notes in the local record shops looking for musicians on the same wavelength. No internet, no socials - just a flyer next to the new Maiden import. What followed was a run
of classic heavy metal, shared stages and pure DIY spirit across the early '90s, splitting the setlist between original material and covers of Iron Maiden, Metallica and Crimson Glory - the latter being where the band's name actually came from, taken from the song on 'Transcendence' rather than the angel-of-death imagery. The band went into hibernation at the end of 1994. They are back in 2026, with founding guitarist Andy Lijoi anchoring a renewed six-piece line-up: Federico Travi (vocals), Edoardo Napoli and Andy Lijoi (guitars), Mik Radogna (keyboards), Gianluca Eroico (bass) and Daniele Di Tullio (drums). The debut EP 'Clockwork Abyss' was released on 1st May 2026 - five tracks, around twenty-five minutes, written, recorded, mixed and mastered entirely by the band. Nemesys / Call Me Rover / Chinatown / My Lost Delight / No More Time. Available on Bandcamp. Twin guitars, vocals up front, songs that move from A to B without padding. The records we grew up with - made today.
