We will simply never get tired of the opulence of Palais Royal perfume! These beautiful pieces were purchased as souvenirs of the European grand tour by tourists visiting Paris in the 19th century.

This beauty features five pink opaline glass bottles hung from a gilded metal carousel. Opaline glass is a form of decorative glassware made in France between 1810 and 1890, although it reached the peak of its popularity during the reign of Napoleon III in the 1850s and 1860s. It has a high lead content, which makes it similar to crystal in composition and defines it as semi-crystal.

The glass is usually opaque and either white or coloured by the addition of other substances, the earliest colours being turquoise blue, yellow and pink. The color of this glass is often called “Gorge de pigeon” (pigeon’s throat) aka rose Hortensia, and is rare, therefore more prized by collectors.

While Chanel No. 5 may be the most well-known fragrance named with a number, it is far from the only one. To this day, modern perfume brands like Le Labo and Kayali are known for using numbers in their fragrance names. And there’s something about it that adds an air of mystery, don’t you think?

💙 Guerlain recently released a brand-new L’Heure Bleue flanker in a beautiful blue ombre inverted-heart bottle, featuring the same Art Deco font used in Shalimar L’Essence - swipe to check it out! So we thought we’d take a look back at some of the past bottles.

As far as we can tell, this new iteration of the classic scent is not meant to replace the original, which will now be called L’Heure Bleue 1912. Instead, it's a modern interpretation of a perfume inspired by twilight. The new scent has a fresher, brighter profile than the original's more floral, romantic, and slightly melancholic character.

It’s great to see how Guerlain finds creative ways to honor their history and heritage and appeal to a new customer base. We just hope they’ll never stop making the iconic scent we know and love. What do you think of the new bottle and the sound of the new scent?
