💙 Guerlain recently released a brand-new L’Heure Bleue flanker in a beautiful blue ombre inverted-heart bottle, featuring the same Art Deco font used in Shalimar L’Essence - swipe to check it out! So we thought we’d take a look back at some of the past bottles.

As far as we can tell, this new iteration of the classic scent is not meant to replace the original, which will now be called L’Heure Bleue 1912. Instead, it's a modern interpretation of a perfume inspired by twilight. The new scent has a fresher, brighter profile than the original's more floral, romantic, and slightly melancholic character.

It’s great to see how Guerlain finds creative ways to honor their history and heritage and appeal to a new customer base. We just hope they’ll never stop making the iconic scent we know and love. What do you think of the new bottle and the sound of the new scent?

I am delighted to announce that Julie’s Perfume Fair will be holding its 3rd edition in Verrières-le-Buisson (91370) on December 12 and 13.

This year's theme will be Caron Perfumes, the prestigious perfume house well known to collectors of perfume bottles and lovers of distinctive fragrances.

On the afternoon of Saturday, December 12, a conference presented by an expert in antique perfumery will retrace the fascinating history of this illustrious house and its contribution to the world of fine fragrance.

Throughout Sunday, December 13, both morning and afternoon, collectors and enthusiasts will have the opportunity to discover, admire, and perhaps acquire rare and unusual pieces to enhance their collections.

We look forward to welcoming you once again to Verrières-le-Buisson for this celebration of perfume heritage and collecting.

A brief history of the brand, d’Orsay: In 1908, a group of French and foreign investors came together to form a perfume brand in Paris. The company used a castle as a production facility and selected a historical figure to lend cachet to the brand. Count Gabriel Alfred Guillaume d’Orsay was, by all accounts, the ultimate “dandy”. The count’s name and coat of arms were adopted to give the company the impression of a noble heritage.

d’Orsay changed ownership in 1916 and became a world-renowned brand—with boutiques in Paris and New York, bottles created by the likes of Lalique and Baccarat, and labels designed by artists Marie Laurencin and Jean Cocteau. The house eventually declined and has gone through multiple owners. But they relaunched in 2018 and are thriving, drawing on their history and creating new scents for the modern era.

This whole presentation feels fit for a princess! ➡️ Scroll to see the equally exquisite exterior of the perfume box.

The clear glass bottle features embossed violets on the shoulders and a crown-shaped stopper. The lovely oval presentation box is decorated with a cherub, violets, and a type of Japanese washi paper finished with a blue watercolor wash, giving a mottled effect. A pink ribbon holds the box open when the lid is lifted. Although the bottle and box depict violets, the label says, “Seely triple Extract Egyptian Lotus”.

Can you imagine being a woman in the late 1800s receiving this as a gift? We imagine it would have earned a place of honor on many vanities during the Gilded Age.

Fruit may not be quite as popular as flowers as a perfume motif. But, as you can see, fragrance brands were making clever fruit-themed bottles as far back as the 1920s.
