K9 Daisy Locates Fleeing Subject Buried Under Leaves! St. Johns County Sheriff’s Dep. Melanie Merritt and K9 Daisy Mae, a discriminate Bloodhound, responded to assist Border Patrol in locating a subject who bailed out of a vehicle after a traffic stop. The subject ran across all lanes of I-95 and was last seen running into the woods, but the exact location of entry was unknown. Dep. Merritt used a Scent Kit to collect a scent article from the vehicle where the subject was sitting and deployed K9 Daisy Mae. Daisy worked the wood line along I-95 for 20 yards and turned into the woods for 10 yards until she came to a fence. The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office Bloodhound Team worked along the fence for 200 yards and stopped, indicating that the subject had gone over the fence. K9 Daisy was lifted over the fence and continued to trail for 5 yards and exhibited proximity behavior that the subject was nearby. They located the subject behind a fallen tree buried under leaves. He was taken into custody with no issues.
