Summer is full of festivals, events, and conversations about the future. But whose voices are truly heard?

Rising Voices supports young women and young people from minority backgrounds to speak up, take part, and create change.

May 16 is the International Day of Living Together in Peace.
At the Rising Voices project, we promote peace by strengthening democracy and making sure diverse young voices are heard.
When different voices are included, we understand each other better and reduce division and polarization. Listening to one another helps break down prejudice and build trust within our communities.

Through the project, young people in partner countries — including women from minority backgrounds — take part in trainings and mentoring programs designed to strengthen confidence, leadership, and opportunities to speak up and be heard.

Peace begins in everyday actions: listening, respecting differences, and creating space for everyone’s voice.

In March, the Youth Barometer 2025 was published in Finland. According to the barometer, one in two young people is pessimistic about the future of the world. At the same time, nearly half report having experienced discrimination, particularly due to their political views or gender-related expectations.

In Rising Voices, we aim to amplify young women’s voices and strengthen their participation. That is why we closely monitor studies that reveal what kind of support and space young people need to be able to influence and shape their own futures.

✨ This is what it looks like… when barriers are named.

During the fourth Skills Development Programme in Palermo hosted by , young women moved beyond sharing experiences, they identified the structural obstacles that limit political participation and began transforming them into collective reflections.

Across the sessions, discussions focused on:

🗣️ Representation gaps
🚪 Access to decision-making spaces
💭 Confidence and self-perception
🤝 The need for peer solidarity

Because change does not begin with silence.
It begins with recognising the barriers and deciding to address them together.

💜 Participation becomes meaningful when it leads to action.

✨ This is what it looks like… when young women are truly heard.

In Palermo (Italy), our partner CEIPES continues the Rising Voices journey through the Skills Development Programme, creating spaces where participation is real, safe, and meaningful.

During the second programme meeting, students from Liceo Linguistico Ninni Cassarà engaged in activities focused on:

▫️speaking up with confidence
▫️listening and being listened to
▫️recognising themselves as active participants in democratic life

Through dialogue, practical exercises, and shared reflection, participants explored what participation really means and how leadership can grow from everyday conversations.

✨ This is what it looks like… when confidence turns into leadership.
In Palermo (Italy), our partner CEIPES is continuing the Rising Voices journey with focus groups designed to create a safe space for young women to speak up, connect, and be heard.

Over the past sessions, the room has been filled with real stories, shared experiences, and moments of recognition — where participants realised they are not alone in facing barriers to participation, and that change can start from everyday conversations.

This is how leadership grows:

✨ This is what it looks like… when young women take space. 💬💪

In Palermo (Italy), young women are stepping forward to shape change — with their voices, ideas and leadership.
In these months, our Italian partner CEIPES is hosting focus groups in Palermo to create a safe and empowering space where young women can share experiences, discuss real barriers to participation, and explore what it takes to be heard in civic and political life.

Together, participants reflected on:
🗣️ communication & public speaking
💪 confidence & leadership
📢 advocacy & civic engagement
🌍 representation and inclusion in decision-making

These moments of dialogue help us build project activities that truly respond to young women’s needs — especially those from vulnerable, marginalised and minority backgrounds.

Today we introduce our partner, Nuorten Akatemia / Youth Academy (Finland)!
Based in Helsinki, Youth Academy empowers young people through non-formal learning and close cooperation with schools, municipalities, and youth organisations across Finland.

In Rising Voices, Youth Academy:
• Leads the Mentorship Programme — model design, mentor preparation, and oversight of the 9-month mentoring journey
• Contributes to the Skills Programme — supports content delivery and participant learning at national level
• Implements community-facing activities in Finland and helps engage local stakeholders
• Supports dissemination in Finland (sharing project news and results)
• Coordinates quality/monitoring inputs to help keep activities on track across the partnership.

Today we introduce our partner, EgyüttHató Egyesület / Association Co-Efficient (Hungary)!
Based in Budapest, Együttható is a non-profit youth and community organisation (est. 2010) focused on non-formal learning, inclusion, and innovative community services. They run a Youth Information Office in Budapest’s 4th district and the Hatáspont Tanoda after-school centre in Gyöngyös, working closely with diverse youth.

In Rising Voices, Együttható / Co-Efficient:
• Leads local recruitment, sessions, and community engagement
• Implements national activities with young women and mentors in Hungary
• Contributes to dissemination and visibility at the local level

In Rising Voices, Inter Alia:
• Leads Community Engagement (WP4): designs the framework for local engagement workshops and actions.
• Supports partners to organise inclusive activities with local stakeholders and young participants.
• Collects insights from the field to feed programme improvements and visibility efforts.
• Contributes to dissemination alongside the consortium.
