🌍 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘-𝗟𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗦̌𝗮𝘃𝗻𝗶𝗸, 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗶: 𝗥𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀, 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲🌊🌿

Between May and June 2025, the SAFE-LAND project team carried out a series of awareness-raising campaigns across Montenegro, with key outreach events in the municipalities of Šavnik (20 May), Berane (4 June), and Herceg Novi (5 June).

🗣️ In Šavnik, where three rivers cross and flooding is a recurring concern, the event coincided with the celebration of the Municipality Day. Citizens were reminded of the severe floods that affected the area in October 2024, and were introduced to the aims and ongoing activities of the SAFE-LAND project. The campaign highlighted how prevention and preparedness can reduce risks and protect lives and property.

🏘️ In Berane, the team met with both local residents and the community living in the Riverside-Talum refugee settlement, home to 33 displaced families from Kosovo. Having experienced devastating floods in 2010, the settlement was a key location for delivering information about flood prevention, early warning systems, and how SAFE-LAND is using new technologies—including AI-powered tools—to better predict and respond to natural hazards.

🏫 In Herceg Novi, the campaign engaged not only citizens but also two sixth-grade classes from “Ilija Kišić” Elementary School, whose participation brought fresh energy and curiosity to the event. Held in the town square and covered by local media, the activity was a great example of how education and public outreach can go hand in hand in building community resilience.

📦 During all three events, participants received a variety of promotional and educational materials: leaflets, brochures, USB drives, notebooks, pens, and branded gadgets designed to spread the SAFE-LAND message even further.
These campaigns represent a key part of the project’s mission: to empower communities with knowledge, foster a culture of risk reduction, and promote collaboration between institutions and citizens.

🟢 SAFE LAND Project – Prevention, Resilience and Artificial Intelligence Supporting Communities

Two impactful days dedicated to raising awareness and promoting disaster risk reduction through the European project SAFE LAND, which aims to reduce the risks of floods and landslides using artificial intelligence.

👨‍🏫 On 15 May, representatives from the Ministry of Interior and the Directorate for Rescue and Protection presented the project at the First Secondary School in Nikšić to 60 students, 5 teachers, and 2 school management staff. The session recalled the devastating floods of 2010 and 2012 and highlighted how SAFE LAND can support effective risk management planning, even when hydrogeological and demographic data are incomplete. Students showed great interest, especially in the innovative use of AI.

🏘️ On 16 May, the project was presented to the local population in the high-risk areas of Staševina, Kličevo, and Ozrinići, with the participation of 20 residents. A study visit to previously flooded sites was organized to discuss the importance of disaster resilience and preparedness, with a focus on protecting vulnerable groups such as the elderly and persons with disabilities.

📚 Informational and promotional materials (brochures, USBs, notebooks, pens, gadgets) were distributed during both events.

🔍 SAFE LAND is a concrete step towards building safer, more informed, and more resilient communities.
