FIRST AND FOREMOST - we are NATIONAL - ANSWERING THE 'WHERE WE ARE LOCATED' INQUIRIES. We do not have a "brick and mortar" building. We have foster homes all across the US and volunteers all across the US and Canada. Although we do not transport adopted dogs, we do surely help in that transport (this will be between the adoptive home and the foster home). Our Adoption Process
Once you have filled out the adoption application
ONCE YOU ARE APPROVED… which is all reference checks, vet checks, home safety visit … this is how it works (video)

You WILL/MAY not be contacted for TWO WEEKS or more. Once you fill out the adoption application COMPLETELY, and submit it, you will be sent a CONFIRMATION EMAIL IMMEDIATELY. If you do not receive that email, that means the application did not go through (missing date, characters, etc.) and must resubmit. ADVISE that you copy/paste our application to an email/document and print it out so you can have everything at the ready to fill in before the ONE HOUR time limit expires. YOU CANNOT PLACE AN INTEREST ON ANY DOG UNTIL YOU ARE THROUGH THE PROCESS AND CONTACTED BY YOUR MATCHMAKER. YOU CANNOT PLACE A FORMAL INTEREST ON ANY DOG THAT IS NOT LISTED AS "READY FOR ADOPTION". YOU SHOULD NOT wait until a dog you see come in as an intake, becomes available and listed on the page or website, to fill out an application. We have many, many people that have been waiting a very long time for the dog of their wants/needs. If you are interested in adopting, you must fill out an application and have it on file before we can do anything to help you find your forever friend. Our applications have a "one year shelf life". FB has no influence or connection with the Col. Potter adoption approval process. It has come to our attention that many of you post on FB if you are interested in a dog listed at intake, or when made available for adoption and formally placed on our website and then posted here and on our LIKES page. Many of you ask questions about where you are in the process. PLEASE NOTE that posting on FB does NOT provide information that you are formally interested in a dog or get you the information you need from your matchmaker. You must contact your matchmaker directly. YOU MUST be in our adoption process (have already filled out an adoption application), or you must FILL OUT an adoption application. Once you are through our process, you will be assigned a MATCHMAKER and only THEN can you formally express an interest in any of our dogs. KNOW THAT ONCE YOU SUBMIT AN APPLICATION, IT WILL BE AT A MINIMUM OF TWO WEEKS BEFORE YOU FORMALLY HEAR FROM US. But if your application was submitted properly, you will have received a CONFIRMATION COPY in your email. IF YOU ARE IN PROCESS, you can surely express an interest in a NEWLY TAKEN IN DOG that is posted here, by sharing that dog's name with your MATCHMAKER, but the dog has to be in our foster system for a minimum of TWO WEEKS for evaluation, before they can be formally matched with a home. There may have been several families waiting for a specific set of circumstances, so when a dog comes in, and they are in our process, they let their Matchmaker know, and their name is put in for that dog. Once the EVALUATION period is up and the dog can be made available to adopt, there may already be a long list of families for that one particular dog OR the foster home may decide the dog IS already home. REMEMBER - it takes at least THREE WEEKS to get all our I's dotted and our T's crossed in our application process and six to 12 months to get an adoption completed.
