🌍 Earth Day is no longer about awareness. It is about action.

In a time of rising energy costs and geopolitical uncertainty, the transition to resilient and renewable-based systems cannot wait.

Across the world, islands are already leading, accelerating renewables and strengthening energy independence through solutions that work in real conditions.

At Greening the Islands Foundation, we scale these solutions, supporting islands as drivers of a more secure and sustainable future. Because the future is not something to protect. It is something we must build.

🇪🇺Europe is at a turning point.

A few days ago in Brussels, Greening the Islands, represented by our Chair Gianni Chianetta, joined a high level discussion with Global Renewables Alliance on electrification and energy security.

Billions are still spent on fossil fuels, when they could accelerate renewables.

Islands are already proving the model, Resilient, Renewable & Self sufficient.

Now it’s time to act ⚡️

🌍 GTI Academy | Workshop 2: Variable Renewable Generation Technologies: Solar PV

Coming April 23rd, the GTI Academy continues its capacity-building pathway through the Empowering Islands programme with a second session focused on one of the most critical pillars of island energy transition: scaling solar PV within resilient island systems.

Building on the strategic foundations introduced in Workshop 1, this session explores how islands can effectively integrate variable renewable generation, with a focus on solar PV, within the GTI 100% RES Islands Methodology.

Participants will gain practical insights to:
⚙️ Assess solar PV deployment strategies adapted to island constraints
📊 Design system configurations that balance variability, stability and cost
🔌 Understand grid integration requirements for high solar pe*******on
🏛 Navigate regulatory and enabling frameworks for solar scale-up

This session is exclusively reserved for technical officers and decision-makers responsible for island energy planning and system management within public authorities and utilities.

We are pleased to deliver this workshop in cooperation with:
🔹 United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs
🔹 International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)
🔹 Global Renewables Alliance (GRA)

With technical contributions from:
🔹 Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias

🌍 What if islands became the leaders of the energy transition?

Islands are already facing high energy costs, supply insecurity and climate pressure, but they also hold the key to a cleaner, more resilient future.

With the 100x100 campaign, Greening the Islands Foundation and Blue Planet Alliance are supporting 100 islands in committing to 100% renewable energy, through strategy, capacity building, and real on-the-ground action.

Join the 100x100 campaign and help shape the future of island energy systems: https://100x100islands.org

All participating islands will also have the opportunity to take part in our Empowering Islands Programme, a dedicated series of workshops designed to turn ambition into implementation - Learn more here: https://greeningtheislands.org/gti-academy/
