📄 Paper Week 2026 a Monza: carta, creatività e partecipazione

🔄 Global Circularity Protocol: the new standard for measuring corporate circularity

Circularity has become a key topic for many companies.
Yet measuring it effectively, integrating it into decision-making, and communicating it transparently remain major challenges.

The Global Circularity Protocol for Business (GCP) was created to address exactly that.
It provides an international framework to measure, manage, and communicate circular performance through clear, comparable and actionable indicators.

In Tondo’s latest blog article, we explore:

🔹 Why a global standard was needed
🔹 The 5 pillars of the protocol (Frame, Prepare, Measure, Manage, Communicate)
🔹 How the GCP helps companies turn circularity into a strategic driver
🔹 Tondo’s role in supporting circularity measurement and innovation

♻️ Rethinking Value: Circularity is becoming a real business strategy

In our latest article, we explore the Rethinking Value white paper by Vlerick Business School, which shows how circularity is moving from theory to a concrete driver of innovation, competitiveness and risk management.

In a context of resource volatility and rising regulatory pressure, rethinking value means shifting toward durability, reuse, regeneration and service-based models, unlocking both economic and operational benefits.

The report highlights five essential pillars for credible circular transformation:
🔹 systems thinking
🔹 circular design
🔹 new business models
🔹 enabling mechanisms (digitalisation, regulation, finance)
🔹 people and organisational culture

🔍 Five case studies make this transition tangible:
• ABN AMRO integrating circular indicators into risk assessment and financing circular business models
• Barco developing modular products and refurbishing services in a sector driven by rapid obsolescence
• B.I.G. redesigning polymer materials with 2030 targets for recycled and bio-based inputs
• IKEA scaling buy-back programmes and second-life markets across global retail
• Impetus converting agri-food side streams into new resources through “circularity-as-a-service”

Across all cases, a clear pattern emerges: leading companies integrate circularity into strategy, collaborate across value chains and start small to scale effectively.

For Tondo, this shift is no longer aspirational, it is the natural evolution of economic models. The real challenge now is turning these examples into widely adopted standards.

How can energy-intensive industries cut emissions, reduce dependency on raw materials and stay competitive?

According to a new Joint Research Centre (JRC) study, the answer lies in the circular economy.

The report “Capturing the potential of the circular economy transition in energy-intensive industries” (2025) shows that applying circular strategies such as reduce, reuse and recover across steel, aluminium, cement and plastics could almost double Europe’s GHG reductions by 2050 compared to decarbonisation alone.

Circularity is not just about recycling. It means redesigning industrial systems to make them more efficient, resilient and independent.
From green steel to cement fines recovery and chemical recycling of plastics, these sectors are becoming real laboratories of transition.

At TONDO, we believe that the energy transition is not enough without a material transition.
Circularity is not a buzzword; it is a strategic path toward a more autonomous, sustainable and competitive Europe.

🌱 Certified Biodegradables: Do They Really Work?

Biodegradable materials are often seen as heroes in the fight against plastic pollution but do they really live up to their promises?

A recent BB-REG-NET report, “Addressing Persistent Plastic Pollution: The Case for Biodegradable Solutions,” presents scientific data and real-world evidence confirming that certified biodegradable materials can fully degrade turning into water, CO₂, and biomass without leaving persistent plastic residues behind.

From agricultural mulch films to biodegradable tree shelters and compostable packaging, the study shows that these solutions work, but only when managed responsibly within a circular system.

Environmental conditions, end-of-life management, and proper disposal channels make all the difference.

Among the most promising examples:
🌿 Tutor International Srl, Renashe, producing natural-fiber biodegradable tree protectors
♻️ Biorepack, the first European consortium dedicated to the organic recycling of compostable bioplastic packaging.

At Tondo, we believe that innovation must be guided by science.
These materials are not a free pass to pollute, they’re a tool to rethink how we produce, use, and regenerate resources.

♻️ New EU Rules on Textile and Food Waste: A Turning Point for Europe’s Circular Economy

In September 2025, the European Parliament approved a landmark Waste Directive introducing binding targets to reduce food waste and impose sustainable management standards for textile waste across the EU.
This reform is one of the pillars of the Circular Economy Package, concretely advancing the European Green Deal and the path toward climate neutrality by 2050.

🔹 Key changes at a glance
- Binding targets to cut food waste by 10 % in production and 30 % at consumer level by 2030
- Mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for textile producers within 30 months
- Eco-modulated fees to favour durable, repairable, recyclable products
- Emphasis on data collection, traceability, and circular business models

This directive is not just regulation — it’s an invitation to innovate. It spurs renewal in textile recycling chains, data-driven platforms for waste monitoring, and sustainable partnerships that can drive competitiveness.

💡 Leading European examples — such as Refashion (France), Rifò (Italy), Too Good To Go (Denmark), and LAST MINUTE MARKET - IMPRESA SOCIALE S.R.L. (Italy) — demonstrate how the circular economy can translate into real, scalable impact.
