Discorso della Presidente Adele Scarani in occasione del XXI Anniversario Strage di Linate Bosco dei Faggi – 8 ottobre 2022
A tutti voi qui presenti va il mio più affettuoso buongiorno.
Buongiorno agli amici familiari, sempre numerosissimi, che non mancano a questo appuntamento annuale a testimonianza del Ricordo che vive sempre nei nostri cuori.
Buongiorno a tutte le Autorità, religiose, civili e militari, pure molto numerose, all’Amministrazione Comunale, ai rappresentanti della Regione che, con la loro presenza condivideranno con noi un momento estremamente importante e significativo.
Quest’anno, oggi per la prima volta, e poi negli anni a seguire, il giorno che 21 anni fa segnò il momento più triste della storia dell’aviazione civile italiana, non vedrà solo la commemorazione di chi con il sacrificio della propria vita, ha guidato e guida il nostro essere e il nostro fare, ma sarà anche la celebrazione di una giornata nazionale che, nelle parole del presidente di ENAC Pierluigi Di Palma, viene dedicata alla cultura della sicurezza dei trasporti e, in particolare, dell’aviazione civile.
Il nostro 8 ottobre da oggi in poi coinciderà sempre con la celebrazione ufficiale della Giornata nazionale “Per non dimenticare” dedicata alla memoria delle vittime dell’incidente di Linate dell’8 ottobre 2001 e come occasione per promuovere la sicurezza, istituita con atto del Parlamento e tanto da noi desiderata e caldeggiata.
Per questo ringrazio ancora una volta il Presidente di ENAC, il Direttore generale Alessio Quaranta e l’onorevole Raffaella Paita che tanto si sono impegnati per ottenere in Parlamento questa ufficializzazione.
Anche questo esserci adoperati per ottenere una Giornata della Memoria è parte del nostro lavoro, del nostro impegno per garantire sempre più sicurezza del trasporto aereo e tutela delle persone che ci lavorano e che ne usufruiscono, coadiuvati dai cari
amici della nostra task force tecnica che con la loro generosa collaborazione, sono sempre al nostro fianco.
L'8 ottobre, d’ora in poi sarà il giorno che guarda sia al passato, per celebrare la memoria di quel che non deve essere dimenticato, sia al futuro, per promuovere la cultura della sicurezza dei trasporti ed in particolare dell'aviazione civile.
Ogni iniziativa atta a promuovere il ricordo verrà sempre celebrata l'8 ottobre di ogni anno.
Nelle scuole, negli uffici, ovunque si voglia dare un segnale di sensibilizzazione all'opinione pubblica in materia di trasporto.
Ci saremmo aspettati che anche il volo dei nostri Cari fosse un buon volo, invece, è accaduta una tragedia e, nella tragedia, abbiamo unito le nostre forze percorrendo l'unica strada che ci sembrava possibile per andare avanti: non mollare mai.
E tutt'oggi cerchiamo di metterci al servizio degli altri offrendo la nostra dolorosa esperienza affinché situazioni come quella che abbiamo vissuto non si abbiano più a ripetere.
Conservare la memoria, i vissuti, il dolore e trasmettere alle nuove generazioni ciò che di positivo potranno ricavare dalle nostre esperienze.
Non mi stancherò mai di ripetere che tutto quello che abbiamo fatto e che continuiamo a fare, lo facciamo per il Loro ricordo, ma in particolar modo per permettere ai nostri giovani, alle nuove generazioni di essere protagonisti di un mondo migliore dove possano vivere con la speranza nel cuore e sognare e concretizzare i loro sogni migliori.
Io so di essere a volte ripetitiva quando parlo dei giovani, ma essi sono tra ciò che mi sta più a cuore.
È a loro che dobbiamo consegnare un futuro, ma anche un presente, migliore. È a loro che spetta il compito di lavorare e seguire i modelli positivi che testimoniamo loro, a loro il non ripetere gli errori passati e puntare sempre verso la luce, verso il sole, verso la fiducia e la speranza.
“Non è che le fiabe dicono ai bambini che esistono i draghi, i bambini lo sanno già da soli. Le fiabe dicono ai bambini che i draghi possono essere sconfitti” (così Roberto Benigni in un suo intervento ...).
A voi, bambini ... a voi giovani ... a voi tutti che vi affacciate alla vita, prendete e usate il bagaglio di esperienza, anche pesante, che vi porgiamo e che sia un mondo migliore.
Oggi è commemorazione, ricordo, speranza e sguardo verso il futuro.
Concludo leggendo un passaggio del discorso che Sua Santità ha pronunciato in occasione dell’udienza con il settore del trasporto aereo internazionale , tenutosi il 13 maggio scorso, alla quale ha partecipato anche una nostra delegazione.
Le parole rivolte al mondo aeronautico sono anche per tutto il lavoro che noi familiari abbiamo dedicato e che continuiamo a dedicare per la sicurezza aerea.
Così il Pontefice
“Una vostra preoccupazione è anche quella di attuare adeguati programmi al fine di prevenire gravi incidenti sui mezzi di trasporto
A questo proposito auspico che la giornata nazionale “Per non dimenticare” ideata per ricordare le vittime del tragico incidente aereo di Linate, sia occasione per sensibilizzare le realtà interessate all’aviazione civile sulla centralità del passeggero e il valore di ogni singola persona
Vi incoraggio a portare avanti questo appuntamento annuale, e mi congratulo con voi perché sapete viverlo nella dimensione religiosa ed umana, che per voi trova il suo punto di riferimento nella santa casa di Loreto, nella vostra Patrona, di cui siete particolarmente devoti”.
E saluto tutti con un forte abbraccio e con un pensiero di Santa Teresa di Calcutta come ormai da tradizione.
“Quello che noi facciamo è solo una goccia nell’oceano, ma se non lo facessimo l’oceano avrebbe una goccia in meno”.

To all of you present here today goes my most affectionate good morning.
Good morning to family friends, always very numerous, who never miss this annual
event as a testimony of the memory that always lives in our hearts.
Good morning to all the authorities, religious, civil and military, also very numerous,
to the municipal administration, to the representatives of the region who, with their
presence, will share with us an extremely important and significant moment.
For the first time, the day that 21 years ago marked the saddest moment in the
history of Italian civil aviation, will not only see the commemoration of those who
with the sacrifice of their lives, guided and still guide what we do and believe in, but
will also be the celebration of a national day. In the words of the President of ENAC
Pierluigi Di Palma, this day is dedicated to the culture of transport safety and, in
particular, that of civil aviation.
Our 8th October from now on will always coincide with the official celebration of the
National Day "Not to forget" dedicated to the memory of the victims of Linate’s
accident of 8th October 2001, and an opportunity to promote safety, established by
an act of Parliament and very much wished for by all of us.
For this, I wish to thank once again the President of ENAC, the Director General
Alessio Quaranta and the honorable member Raffaella Paita who have worked so
hard to obtain the formalization at the Parliament.
Our hard work to obtain such day of remembrance is part of our commitment to air
transport safety, and the protection of aviation workers as well as passengers’,
always assisted by our dear friends of the Technical Task Force who with their
generous collaboration, are always by our side.
October 8th, from now on, will be the day that looks both to the past, to celebrate the
memory of what must not be forgotten, and to the future, to promote the culture of
transport safety and in particular that of civil aviation.
Any initiative aimed at promoting remembrance will always be celebrated on the 8th
October each year. In schools, offices, wherever people will want to raise awareness
on the subject of transport safety.
Although we expected our loved ones to be on a safe flight too, a tragedy happened
and, in such tragedy, we joined our forces along the only path we could see: that of
‘never giving up’.
21 years later we still try to put ourselves at the service of others by offering
testimony of our painful experience, so that such tragedies won’t happen again. We
preserve the memory, the experiences, the pain, and pass on to the new generations
the positive lessons.
I will never get tired of saying that everything we have done and continue to do, it is
for our loved ones’ memory, but especially to allow our young people - the new
generations - to be part of a better world, where they can live with hope in their
hearts and make their best dreams come true.
I know I am repetitive at times when I talk about young people, but they are so so
close to my heart.
To them we must hand over a future, as well as a better present. It is up to them to
work and follow the positive models that we testify to them, to them not to repeat
past mistakes and always aim for the light, towards the sun, towards trust and hope.
“Fairy tales don’t tell children that dragons exist, they already know that. Fairy tales
tell children that dragons can be defeated" (said Roberto Benigni in a speech).
To you, children…and young people...to all of you who are just starting to experience
life, take and make good use of the ‘heavy baggage’ we offer you, and make this a
better world.
I conclude by reading part of the speech that His Holiness gave at the audience with
the international air transport sector, held on May 13th, which was also attended by
one of our delegations. The words addressed to the aeronautical world are also a
praise to the work that we, family members, have dedicated and continue to
dedicate to aviation safety.
His Holiness said “One of your concerns is also to implement adequate programs in
order to prevent serious transport accidents, and in this regard, I hope that the
national day "Not to forget", created to remember the victims of the tragic Linate
plane crash, will be an opportunity to raise awareness among aviation stakeholders
on the centrality of the passenger and the value of every single person. I encourage
you to carry on with this annual appointment, and I congratulate you for being able
to experience both the religious and the human dimension – your point of reference
being the Holy House of Loreto, in your Patroness, to whom you are particularly
devoted to.‘’
I wish to greet everyone with a hug and a thought from Saint Teresa of Calcutta as
per tradition: '' We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean.
But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop.''
