"The initiative sets out to encourage production and direct transmission of histories of the arts, putting artists at the center of the discussion and the dynamics through which those histories are written, transmitted and spread. The mission is to work on the central character of the History of the Arts and the role of the artist in paths of training, intertwining personal visions, individual met
hods, chronologies and contexts. The project focuses on the production of a series of courses in History of the Arts taught by artists, and their respective display contexts (classrooms) specifically designed by the invited artists. The classroom, in each case, redefines the relationship between teaching and learning. The challenge is the possibility of working on the transmission of knowledge, the relationship between contemporary artistic practices and historical contexts, between teachers, mentors and students. the classroom operates in collaboration with the universities and cultural centers of the city, with international figures interested in the relationship between art and education, and the approach to various scholastic systems. The courses are shaped each time in relation to contexts, generating a set of classrooms destined to develop specific synergies with local institutions, communities, cultural associations, public and private archives and collections. the classroom is a project a project housed in a former school building that from 1972 to 2011 contained one of the Montessori School of Milan.
