🚨 OIPA ETS HAS SENT FORMAL LETTERS TO THE CHINESE AUTHORITIES OVER THE KILLING OF WANG WANG AND HER PUPPIES

Following more than one hundred reports and appeals received from citizens in Italy, across Europe and in other countries, OIPA has formally contacted the competent Chinese authorities over an exceptionally serious case of animal cruelty in Jieyang, Guangdong Province.

According to the information and videos circulated internationally, four minors allegedly subjected Wang Wang, a stray mother dog, and her newborn puppies to deliberate and prolonged violence. The mother dog was reportedly beaten, tortured and ultimately set on fire, while her puppies were also killed.

The abuse was filmed and subsequently shared online.

OIPA has requested detailed information on the measures adopted in relation to the minors, including psychological assessment, educational intervention, parental responsibility and long-term monitoring.

The organisation is also calling for:

⚖️ stronger national protection for companion and stray animals
🚫 effective action against animal-torture videos shared, sold or monetised online
📱 greater responsibility from digital platforms
🧠 preventive and educational measures for children and young people
🤝 cooperation between public authorities, schools and animal-protection organisations.

Wang Wang and her puppies cannot be brought back.

But their suffering must lead to concrete action and lasting change.

🐾 GOOD NEWS FROM OIPA LIBERIA: COMMUNITIES UNITED FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

More than 30 people joined OIPA Liberia in the Parker Paint Community for an important event dedicated to animal welfare, responsible pet ownership and rabies prevention.

Women, young people, pet owners, community leaders and representatives of local institutions came together to learn how protecting animals also means protecting people and the environment. 🌍

Through the One Health approach, participants explored the importance of:

🐕 vaccinating dogs and preventing rabies
🏡 providing animals with food, clean water, shelter and veterinary care
💙 protecting animals from cruelty, abuse and neglect
📢 reporting animal bites and suspected cases of disease
🤝 strengthening cooperation between communities, institutions and animal welfare organisations

🐾 Awareness begins with dialogue.

Thanks to the dedication of Hala Montaser Mahmoud, OIPA’s Representative in Palestine, OIPA Palestine volunteers recently met with students at An-Najah National University and Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie in Tulkarm to talk about stray dogs and the challenges surrounding their presence in local communities.

🎤 Through interviews and open conversations, students had the opportunity to share their thoughts, concerns and experiences.

At the same time, the volunteers introduced humane, medical and scientific approaches to stray dog management, highlighting the importance of:

🐶 vaccination and sterilisation
🩺 veterinary care
🏡 responsible ownership
🤝 cooperation between communities and professionals

The team also interviewed Dr Nemer Khraim, who shared his professional perspective on how science, awareness and prevention can help protect both animals and people.

The field activities were coordinated by Mai, together with Hamza Al-Qub, Diaa, Hamada and a committed group of volunteers.

📣Hundreds of stray dogs in Alexandria, Egypt, have reportedly been captured and abandoned in desert areas under extreme summer temperatures📣

These reports raise serious concerns and appear to contradict Egypt’s publicly declared commitment to humane stray dog population management through CNVR (Capture, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return).

OIPA ETS is deeply concerned by the situation and is taking action through a joint institutional initiative addressed to the Egyptian Government and the competent authorities, calling for transparency, accountability and the implementation of humane, science-based solutions for the management of stray dog populations.

We will continue to monitor the situation and keep the international community informed.

🇲🇽 UPDATE | Animalandia Maya

Following OIPA’s formal communication regarding the alleged exploitation of wildlife for tourist entertainment at Animalandia Maya in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, OIPA has now received an official response from Mexico’s Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA).

In its reply, PROFEPA acknowledged OIPA’s concerns and confirmed that coordinated actions involving state and municipal authorities had already taken place at the facility. The authority also stated that several wild animals have been placed under official protection and that it will continue coordinating with the relevant institutions to ensure their protection, welfare and conservation, while pursuing any administrative measures within its legal mandate.

OIPA welcomes this official response and will continue to closely monitor the case, reaffirming its commitment to protecting wildlife and promoting responsible, ethical tourism worldwide.

🇭🇷 CROATIA | OIPA ETS takes institutional action

OIPA ETS has formally addressed the competent Croatian authorities and relevant European institutions following the receipt of reports, official documentation, photographic evidence and media coverage concerning a series of serious animal welfare cases in Croatia.

The communication highlights three recent cases involving the alleged starvation of two German Shepherd dogs in Bale, the discovery of severely neglected animals in Dvor na Uni, and concerns regarding the transport of thirteen cats during an eviction procedure in Split.

While fully respecting the independence of the Croatian judicial and administrative authorities, OIPA ETS has called for transparency, accountability and the effective enforcement of existing animal welfare legislation.

The communication has been sent to the relevant Croatian authorities, the Delegation of the European Union to Croatia, Croatian Members of the European Parliament and Eurogroup for Animals.
