🇧🇬 Meet Tatiana Zlatova, OIPA’s new representative in Bulgaria!

For more than 20 years, Tatiana has dedicated her life to rescuing abandoned, injured and vulnerable animals. From helping dogs and cats in need to protecting wildlife, educating communities and advocating for stronger animal protection laws, her commitment has always gone beyond individual rescues—towards creating lasting change.

With Tatiana by our side, OIPA will strengthen its presence in Bulgaria and work to prevent abandonment, promote spaying, neutering and animal identification, improve cooperation among local actors and give a stronger voice to every animal. 🐾

Wildfires and a powerful earthquake have devastated parts of Colombia, putting countless animals in danger.

Our partner Fundación Colombia Choca la Pata is on the ground responding to the emergency and has asked for immediate support.

🐾 International Dog Day 2026: different countries, different lives ! but every dog deserves protection.

For millions of people, dogs are family. Yet around the world, many still face abandonment, violent stray-dog management, euthanasia, war, lack of veterinary care and even the dog meat trade.

Today, we also want to celebrate the OIPA heroes working every day on the ground: our International Representatives, Member Leagues, volunteers and partners who rescue animals, provide veterinary care, educate communities and raise their voices when animals are victims of cruelty.

From Africa to Europe, Asia and the Middle East, their daily work reminds us that change often starts locally with people who choose not to look away.

On this International Dog Day, we celebrate every dog, but also every person within the OIPA network who continues to fight for a world where dogs are protected, respected and treated with dignity.

A dog’s right to protection should not depend on where in the world that dog is born 🌍🐶

OIPA ETS has formally contacted the competent Egyptian authorities following reports and visual documentation concerning the reported relocation of free-roaming dogs from Mansoura, Dakahlia Governorate, to an open area near Qalabsho.

The material received raises serious concerns regarding the conditions in which the animals were reportedly transported and released, including access to water, food, shade, shelter and veterinary assistance. Some dogs have also reportedly been found dead following the relocation.

OIPA has requested urgent clarification from the competent authorities regarding the circumstances of the operations, the number of animals involved, the welfare measures adopted and the actions being taken to safeguard any dogs still at risk.

We are confident in the cooperation of the Egyptian Government and the competent authorities, and we trust that the circumstances of the case will be clarified promptly and that any necessary measures will be taken in line with Egypt’s publicly stated commitment to humane, science-based management of free-roaming dog populations.

🚨 ALGERIA | OIPA INSTITUTIONAL ACTION

OIPA International has formally addressed the competent Algerian authorities following documented municipal campaigns involving the killing of free-roaming dogs and, in some cases, cats across several provinces.

Among the material received, one official notice explicitly refers to the use of poisoning as a method of stray-animal control.

OIPA is calling for an end to inhumane lethal practices and for the adoption of humane, effective and science-based solutions grounded in the One Health approach — combining rabies prevention, mass dog vaccination, sterilisation, veterinary care, responsible population management and protection of human health and the environment.

The case has also been brought to the attention of the United Nations in Algeria and relevant international institutions.

Around 500 people came together in Banja Luka to support shelter dogs. 🐾❤️

The humanitarian concert organized by UG WagWag, OIPA’s representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, raised 5,220 BAM through ticket donations, while the GoFundMe campaign has already reached €1,072.

The funds will support the construction of new outdoor enclosures for dogs living in the public shelter of Banja Luka, giving them more space, fresh air and better living conditions while they wait for adoption.
