We accelerate solutions to Ocean issues by inspiring institutions, companies, and people.

The Foundation’s mission is to accelerate solutions to ocean issues by inspiring international leaders, companies, institutions and individuals; promoting a sustainable blue economy and spreading knowledge on marine ecosystems through ocean literacy. The Foundation’s aim is to become an active platform capable of bringing together and consolidating all the realities operating for the protection of the ocean in various parts of the world. The distinctive element of One Ocean Foundation is represented by an important network of partner companies, a scientific committee of international relevance and, at the same time, a strong commitment to raise awareness among the new generations. Thanks to its partners, One Ocean Foundation is engaged in multiple projects and activities related to its mission divided into three macro areas: blue economy, education and environmental. Our code of ethics is the Charta Smeralda, an innovative document developed by our Scientific Committee, accessible through the website www.1ocean.org that guides individuals and organizations towards behaviors that respect the marine environment.

🌊 Tourism connects people with the ocean — but every journey leaves a footprint.

Today, on World Tourism Day, we look beneath the surface of one of the fastest-growing sectors of the blue economy: cruise tourism.

Cruises bring economic opportunities to islands, ports, and coastal communities around the world.

As cruise traffic continues to expand, so does the pressure on marine ecosystems — from emissions and wastewater to underwater noise, waste generation, and damage to sensitive habitats.

The majority of these pressures already have an answer. Shore power, alternative fuels, fixed moorings and rigorous waste management.

🇮🇸Iceland has announced plans to introduce a bill in February 2027 that could lead to a permanent ban on commercial whaling.

If approved, the legislation would mark a significant step for the protection of whales and marine biodiversity. Iceland is currently one of only three countries – alongside Norway and Japan – where commercial whaling continues.
But between a promise and action or, in this case, between an announcement and a law there is still an ocean to cross.

The proposal will now have to go through the legislative process before any permanent ban can become reality.

As Scientific Partner of Progetto M.A.R.E we are now beyond excited to share the results of the project’s scientific activities.

Over ten weeks and 1,850 nautical miles, every water sample, acoustic recording, biodiversity survey and wildlife encounter became another piece of a much larger puzzle: understanding how the Mediterranean Sea is changing, and how we can better protect it.
Countless hours of fieldwork, teamwork, and curiosity led to 89 collected samples, 55 bioacoustic recordings, 257 observed individuals, and many other valuable observations that will now be brought into the laboratory, where data becomes knowledge.
