One Ocean Foundation We accelerate solutions to Ocean issues by inspiring institutions, companies, and people.

The Foundation’s mission is to accelerate solutions to ocean issues by inspiring international leaders, companies, institutions and individuals; promoting a sustainable blue economy and spreading knowledge on marine ecosystems through ocean literacy. The Foundation’s aim is to become an active platform capable of bringing together and consolidating all the realities operating for the protection of

the ocean in various parts of the world. The distinctive element of One Ocean Foundation is represented by an important network of partner companies, a scientific committee of international relevance and, at the same time, a strong commitment to raise awareness among the new generations. Thanks to its partners, One Ocean Foundation is engaged in multiple projects and activities related to its mission divided into three macro areas: blue economy, education and environmental. Our code of ethics is the Charta Smeralda, an innovative document developed by our Scientific Committee, accessible through the website www.1ocean.org that guides individuals and organizations towards behaviors that respect the marine environment.

If you have spotted small dolphins leaping gracefully out of the water this summer, you have almost certainly met a striped dolphin.

This cetacean is the ultimate acrobat of our seas, but also one of the most exposed to human impact.

Meeting them is a true privilege: always remember to respect navigation guidelines by reducing your speed and keeping your distance so as not to disturb their spectacular maneuvers.

What does the ocean look like through a child's eyes?

During One Ocean Week, artist invited children to answer this question through drawing. Each illustration became part of a collective artwork, bringing together emotions, memories and personal connections with the sea.

One Ocean Week may be over, but our commitment isn't. Throughout the summer, we continue creating opportunities to look at the ocean with the same curiosity, care and attention.

If the sea in Italy is so crystal-clear, it is no coincidence: it’s the result of strict protection rules and respect for the environment.

With the project Blue Forest we are active in three Marine Protected Areas: Portofino, Isola di Bergeggi, and Torre Guaceto, supporting research to protect these unique ecosystems.

Snorkeling here is incredible, but it requires responsibility. Being a mindful guest means observing wildlife without disturbing it, never touching marine organisms, and swimming suspended without altering the seabed.

Swipe through our guide to discover the unique biodiversity of these areas and how to dive mindfully!

The real beach doesn't belong to your suitcase. Every grain of sand, shell and marine species is part of an ecosystem that works because everything stays where it belongs.

Swipe through to discover a few simple ways to enjoy the ocean without leaving a mark.

A deep-sea ghost that holds world records, right in the heart of the Mediterranean.

The Cuvier's beaked whale (Ziphius cavirostris) is a fascinating and mysterious cetacean. Resembling a large dolphin measuring 5 to 7 meters in length, it lives almost exclusively in the deepest parts of the ocean. It is an extraordinary diver, capable of plunging nearly 3,000 meters deep and holding its breath for up to four consecutive hours.

This individual was spotted above the Caprera Canyon in Sardinia, one of the very few ecological hotspots in the Mediterranean where Cuvier's beaked whales live and feed year-round. Through its long-term research project in this area, One Ocean Foundation studies and monitors this unique habitat to support its conservation.

Because this species relies entirely on biosonar for navigation and hunting, it is extremely sensitive to underwater noise pollution caused by boat traffic.

If you're sailing this summer, always respect speed limits and official navigation routes. For these whales, silence is essential.

Everything we extract from nature has a market value.

Oil. Gas. Timber. Minerals.

But the ecosystems that keep the ocean alive and make life on Earth possible, from seagrass meadows to mangroves and salt marshes, are still largely invisible to the economy.

During our Blue Economy Summit last May, economist explained why building a blue natural capital economy means changing this perspective. It means recognizing that living nature has value before it is exploited, and creating financial mechanisms that reward its protection rather than its destruction.

Because the greatest value of nature isn't what we can take from it. It's that it keeps the ocean, and all of us, alive.

Every summer, we bring sunscreen to the beach to protect ourselves from the sun — but we rarely stop to consider what happens when those ingredients enter the ocean. The choices we make on the shore can have a lasting impact on marine ecosystems and the health of our seas.

Elizaveta Borovenskaya, sustainability officer at One Ocean Foundation, explains how common sunscreen chemicals like oxybenzone and octinoxate can harm marine life.

Choosing reef-friendly alternatives is a simple step we can take to protect the ocean.

We’re proud to welcome EssilorLuxottica as a Principal Partner of One Ocean Foundation.
EssilorLuxottica decided to support our Blue Forest project, dedicated to the restoration and protection of Posidonia oceanica meadows.

Posidonia oceanica is one of the Mediterranean’s most important endemic species, as it has the capacity to store carbon, protect coastlines from erosion and provide habitat for hundreds of marine species.

We’re looking forward to working together and translating this shared commitment into
tangible impact for the Mediterranean Sea and future generations. 💙

Water has a profound effect on the human mind. There’s a term for this feeling: Blue Mind.

Being near the ocean, a lake, or immersed in water can reduce stress and create a sense of calm, well-being, and connection.
A natural reminder of the planet’s oldest rhythm.

The term was coined by marine biologist Wallace J. Nichols in his bestselling book Blue Mind, which explores how contact with water can positively influence mental health and quality of life.🌊
