“We get affected by every word said by someone who hasn’t lived this pain.”

Sarah, who has been displaced together with her family in 2024 from Khiam – South Lebanon – and last March from Southern Beirut.

The latest escalation on Lebanon started three months ago. Once again, homes have been destroyed, families have flown, people have been killed, and memories are all that is left.

Sarah, together with Tharwat, a member of WeWorld staff in Lebanon who has also been displaced with her family last March, tell us what it means to be displaced in our latest short film Under Evacuation Orders, produced thanks to the support of Italy by Chloe Khoury, Laura Menassa and Ameen Abo Kaseem.

Together with Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo - Ufficio di Beirut, in the last three months we have been supporting families displaced and affected by the attacks in the Bekaa, Baalbek-Hermel and Akkar regions, through the distribution of water, tailored hygiene kits, essential items, and on-site reparation of critical infrastructure.

We have been present in Lebanon for the last 20 years, alongside the population, both national and refugee communities, adapting our intervention to their evolving needs.

In the last days, the water level of the Euphrate river in eastern Syria has risen alarmingly, causing damages to critical infrastructure near the banks and forcing families to evacuate.

Yesterday and last night, during the Eid celebrations, our team in Deir-ez-Zor, thanks to the support of the humanitarian funds of the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid, stepped in to respond promptly, and managed to secure the operation and engine rooms in the Al-Furat pumping station, by making an earthen fence around the rooms to protect them from the rising water. The station is the biggest one in the city and in the whole area, and provides water to more than 400,000 residents.

According to the Water Board, 75% of pumping stations in rural areas in Deir-ez-Zor and Ar-Raqqa governorates went out of service due to the rising water level.

We have been operating in Syria for the last 15 years, supporting the population, and will continue to do so, adapting to the evolving needs and responding to the emergencies promptly.

Living menstruations with dignity, without stigma, without shame and without barriers to education, health and your participation in social life. This is menstrual justice: a right for all.

Every year, millions of young people miss school due to lack of hygiene products, clean water, adequate toilets and privacy.

In areas affected by conflicts, prolonged crises or natural disasters, access to these resources becomes even more difficult.

For years, work in Italy and worldwide has focused on promoting menstrual justice and addressing menstrual poverty through awareness activities, distribution of menstrual hygiene materials, access to water and safe sanitation services in schools, communities and displacement camps.

Families, teachers and community leaders receive involvement because cultural change requires participation from all.

Menstrual rights are human rights.

Rights have no exceptions.

Different areas of have been deeply affected by recurrent conflict, displacement, and movement restrictions, disrupting livelihoods and placing pressure on local businesses and producers.

In the Bekaa and Baalbek-Hermel regions, we have worked alongside refugee and local communities in vulnerable conditions together with local partners in order to strengthen their self-reliance through sustainable livelihoods in the agri-food sector.

In the last weeks, we collected the voices of project participants whose activities were interrupted by the recent instability and who faced many challenges in sustaining their work, income, and daily lives.

Our project is in partnership with Mada Association and the Lebanese Observatory for Workers & Employees Rights المرصد اللبناني لحقوق العمال والموظفين, and funded by the European Regional Development and Protection Program RDPP Middle East (RDPP III) for Jordan and Lebanon.

More than 658,000 school-aged children in Gaza have lost access to consistent, in-person formal education since October 2023. With over 90% of school buildings damaged or destroyed, many children today learn in temporary spaces surrounded by rubble, displacement camps, and the remnants of what once were neighborhoods and schools. And still, children are planting trees and flowers there. Because they decided their future still matters.

After a year of working with children through education and psychosocial support, our RISE project, implemented together with our local partner Teachers Creativity Center, is now helping children reclaim their learning spaces through environmental clubs, turning hope into action.

Children aged 12-14 are planting flowers, olive and lemon trees, turning broken stones into planting beds, recycling plastic bottles into bird feeders, reusing old wood to build school furniture, and building green corners in classrooms that had none.

For many, planting didn't start at school. During displacement, some carried seeds from one shelter to the next, growing food, making something feel like home, wherever they stopped.

"For the first time in a long time, I see the kids more energetic after an activity, not only before it." Teacher

Four learning spaces have been transformed so far. More underway. These spaces may be temporary. The sense of belonging, care and resilience children are building inside them is not.

Through the RISE project, WeWorld and TCC with the support of the Akelius Foundation, continue supporting conflict-affected children in Gaza and the West Bank.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, concerns are growing over a new Ebola outbreak. The virus may have been spreading for weeks before health alerts were issued, and today the situation is particularly worrying in the most vulnerable areas affected by conflict and displacement.

In Goma, we have strengthened prevention and safety measures, continuing to work alongside communities to ensure access to safe water, sanitation, and accurate information to combat fear and misinformation.

In contexts marked by humanitarian crises and fragile health systems, prevention and on-the-ground work remain essential to stopping the spread of the virus.

Another night of attacks in Kyiv, has left behind fear, destruction, and families once again forced to seek shelter underground. More than 900 drones and dozens of missiles struck the city, turning everyday places into scenes of emergency.

In this video, Piero Meda, WeWorld Country Director in Ukraine, speaks about destroyed markets, damaged metro stations, and civilians killed or injured.

When war enters homes and places that are meant to offer protection, it also shatters people’s ability to imagine the future.

Despite everything, we continue to stand every day alongside children and families in Ukraine, creating safe spaces and providing psychological support, education, and moments of normality.

Defending the rights of younger generations today means defending their right to the future.

GAWE 2026: Our Resources, Our Education, Our Future! “Songwe, Momba District, Tanzania, April 2026”.

Imagine starting your day with a walk of more than 10 kilometers across rugged terrain, rivers, and other obstacles just to reach your classroom. Now imagine being a girl and having no choice but to make that journey every day, exposed to heightened risks of violence, abuse, and exploitation along the way.

Distance remains one of the most significant barriers to education, contributing to absenteeism, fatigue, low academic performance, school dropout, and increased vulnerability, especially for girls.

These realities were at the heart of our participation in the Global Action Week for Education (GAWE) 2026, held in Songwe Region from 20 to 24 April, which brought together local and international actors committed to advancing equitable and inclusive education.

WeWorld took part in the event through Pamoja Tudumishe Elimu, a joint initiative implemented in partnership with the Education Above All Foundation's Educate A Child programme, with support from the Qatar Fund for Development.

This year’s theme, Mobilizing Domestic Resources for Inclusive, Quality and Special Needs Responsive Education, sparked an important dialogue on the need for locally driven solutions. From building hostels in remote areas to expanding school infrastructure with thousands of new classrooms at both primary and secondary levels, these investments are essential to ensuring equal opportunities for all learners.

In Tanzania, we remain committed to promoting an education system that is accessible, inclusive, and equitable for every child because, as Education Analyst Dr. Steven Tweve reminded participants during GAWE, a child’s postcode should never define their future.
