We started long before we reached the U.S. 🧑‍🔬

After 26 years of research and hands-on work in Italy, Germany, and South America, we’ve arrived in the USA. This marks the beginning of our U.S. chapter—sharing what we do, what we’re learning, and how to support hummingbirds responsibly. One of our primary goals is to provide evidence-based insights, directly addressing key factors like the nutritional limitations of a sugar-water-only diet. We truly hope to be welcomed by the U.S. community. ✨🇺🇲

This is fieldwork—US, Italy, & Ecuador united for conservation.

Meet Federica, Jeanneth, and Thalia, working here in Ecuador at our scientific station nestled 9,200 feet up in the Andean forest. This is a protected reserve where hummingbirds are part of a crucial ecosystem. Some birds arrive weak and struggling after being offered only sugar water. We see the consequences of that incomplete diet up close, and we step in with documented supportive care, careful monitoring, and a 26-year research-informed nectar formula developed to help them regain strength—always bird-first!

La femmina di solito depone 1 o 2 uova per volta, che sono incubate per circa 16-19 giorni, possono pesare tra i 0,600 e 1 grammo, sono di colore bianco e hanno una superficie liscia.🥚
La madre passa circa 50 minuti all’ora seduta sul nido per riscaldare e umidificare le uova con il suo corpo.🌡️
La madre gira continuamente le uova per consentire all’embrione di svilupparsi correttamente.🌀

The female usually lays 1 or 2 eggs at a time, which are incubated for about 16 to 19 days, can weigh between 0.600 and 1 gram (depending on the species) are white in color and have a smooth surface.🥚
The mother spends about 50 minutes per hour sitting on the nest to warm and moisten the eggs with her body.🌡️
She continuously turns the eggs to allow the embryo to develop properly.🌀

La quantità di nettare in ogni fiore è molto piccola, ciò costringe il colibrì a visitarne circa 1000-2000 giorni per poter sopravvivere.🌺🌷🌻
Questo rende il colibrì un animale particolarmente aggressivo e agguerrito nei confronti dei suoi simili, persino del proprio partner, per poter difendere i fiori presenti nel suo territorio.💢💥

The amout of nectar in each flower is very small and this forces the hummingbird to visit about 1000 to 2000 flowers every day in order to survive.🌺🌷🌻
This makes the hummingbird a particularly aggressive and fierce animal toward its fellow peers, even its own current partner, in order to defend the flowers in its territory.💢💥
