Hi :) I’m Rute, from Portugal, I’m currently finishing my Master’s in Innovation, Human Development and Sustainability and I’ll be spending the next four months in Bergolo as a ESC volunteer.

After moving around the world for a while, the idea of living somewhere quiet, grounded, with less distractions and chaos, became irresistible. Having space and time for my interests, to learn about revitalisation of rural areas, and the people around me, made it an even easier decision. Very happy to be here and to experience life in this part of Italy!

If you like rural settings, real involvement, camping, simple living, nature and getting your hands dirty, Vitality Vibes is for you.

15 volunteers will meet Bulgaria to contribute to the development of a rural training centre and village revitalisation through woodwork, outdoor activities, cooking, media and community tasks.

What grows in our garden?

This week’s we wanted to share how many delicious things our garden brought to us! Zucchini, tomatoes, cucumbers, and even e melon😄

Our garden has truly outdone itself, giving us fresh vegetables and delicious fruits. There’s nothing quite like harvesting what you’ve grown with your own hands 😉 From plant to plate!

Watering the plants has been the perfect way to unwind after a busy day. Without forgetting the sunsets we caught, making it even more special! 🌅

Another wonderful week has gone by, filled with meaningful work, warm connections, and great moments together💚

One day of the week was spent at Bonafous, where we did creative handcrafts together with the residents, and at the Health Center, spending quality time with our beloved seniors. We played cards, enjoyed bingo, and had a really special moment watching a video starring our seniors as the main characters🎬

In our leisure time we made the most of it together. We stayed active by going on a scenic hike and riding bicycles, and as always, relaxed with some good movies🍿

This week was also emotional as we held a farewell dinner for our short-term volunteers. We cooked a delicious meal together, shared plenty of laughs, and made unforgettable memories to send them off in the best way possible🍽️

And of course, our garden updates! We still have an absolute abundance of zucchinis grow

Volunteering Summer Fest - another week, another adventure🌿

The week began with our volunteers joining the fundraising event in Osiglia, where they became part of a wonderful community initiative. It was a great opportunity to experience local traditions, meet new people and spend time together in a welcoming atmosphere.

Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a few well-deserved days to slow down and explore. Some discovered nearby villages, others went hiking through the beautiful landscapes of the region.

Returning to Bergolo also marked the beginning of another journey: our digital disconnection process. Next few days, the volunteers will gradually reduce their screen time and reconnect with nature, the people around them and the present moment through shared experiences and everyday life in the village.

Learning continued with a visit to Casa Rotta lacasarotta ecovillaggio e circolo arci, where our volunteers explored a different approach to sustainable gardening. They learned about growing and harvesting techniques, garden planning and the importance of thoughtful design when creating productive green spaces. The day ended in the best possible way, sharing dinner with local residents and exchanging stories around the same table.

Week by week, this experience continues to grow through learning, participation, cultural exchange and the small everyday moments that bring people and communities together. 🌿

Care2Travel is looking for motivated volunteers to join long-term European Solidarity Corps projects.

Volunteers can choose between projects supporting children in foster care, after-school clubs, or community inclusion initiatives. Activities include organizing non-formal education sessions, teaching English through games, creating educational materials, promoting volunteering, organizing language clubs and community events, and contributing to local social initiatives.

Lo scorso Sabato i nostri volontari ESC hanno trascorso la giornata partecipando ad un evento di raccolta fondi nel bellissimo borgo di Osiglia, in Liguria, affacciato sul lago.

L'evento è stato organizzato per raccogliere fondi a favore del Reparto di Oncologia dell'Istituto Gaslini di Genova, riunendo la comunità locale per una giornata all'insegna della solidarietà, del buon cibo e della convivialità.

I nostri volontari hanno anche partecipato al festival. È stata un'esperienza autentica che ha mostrato il vero significato del volontariato: esserci, partecipare e connettersi con la comunità.

Naturalmente non è mancato il tempo per godersi lo splendido scenario del Lago di Osiglia, condividere un ottimo pranzo e vivere la calorosa accoglienza.

Volontariato non significa soltanto sviluppare idee insieme, ma anche creare nuove connessioni, partecipare ad iniziative che fanno la differenza e conoscere persone e luoghi che rendono speciale ogni comunità.

Un grande grazie agli organizzatori per averci accolto e per aver dato ai nostri volontari l'opportunità di far parte di questa bellissima iniziativa ❤️

Our new ESC Team 'Volunteering Summer Fest' has officially arrived in Bergolo, and the first week has already been full of learning, teamwork and getting their hands dirty.

Before jumping into the activities, our volunteers spent time getting to know the village, discovering the local area and learning how to use different tools safely through interactive and practical activities. They also had the chance to meet our Mayor, who welcomed the group and shared the story and spirit of Bergolo.

Work has already started across the village. The team began installing new informative boards dedicated to Collina del Vento and the +Api project, gave a fresh coat of paint to the picnic area tables, and helped with the general maintenance of the village to keep our shared spaces welcoming for everyone.

And this is only the beginning!
