Our story
Hazardous chemical additives contained within plastics hinder its recyclability and pose a challenge for a “clean” circular economy.
In this regard, the NONTOX project aims to identify innovative technical solutions that could increase the purity as well as the quality of the plastic fraction originating from three key waste streams: WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment), ELV (End of Life Vehicles) and C&DW (Construction and Demolition Waste).
NONTOX has the ambition to improve the plastic recycling rate in order to reduce landfill and incineration and to decrease the risk of retaining undesired substances in recycled materials.
The project is funded for three years by European Union’s Horizon2020 research and innovation program and its Consortium is made up of twelve partners lead by the project coordinator VTT – Technical Research Centre of Finland.
