It is often said that permaculture was born in Australia, in the 1970s. Long before it had that name, it was already being practised in kitchens, in vegetable gardens and by midwives, in gestures that were filed under tradition rather than knowledge.
EmpowHer Permaculture is an Erasmus+ project coordinated by Associazione Culturale Giovani Iddocca in Laconi, Sardinia, with partner organisations in Slovenia Društvo za permakulturo , Greece Cob - Building with Earth and Serbia Zeleno Doba . It has been recognised as a good practice and published on the Erasmus+ projects platform, and the journey is also told in “Crafting Community. Stories of Care, Belonging and Resistance”, a volume edited by Polona Hazl and published by Inter Alia in Athens in 2026, link in bio.
At the heart of the project are the cards, illustrated by Sara Quaranta Sara Quaranta : thirteen female figures from the traditions of the four countries, each holding a women’s practice, a quality of the feminine, a permaculture principle and a short message. They were designed as a tool for workshops, permaculture training and intergenerational dialogue.
The cards are now available to pre-order: 10 euros, which is the printing cost, plus shipping. A minimum number of copies is needed to keep that price, so anyone who would like a deck can send a direct message.
