The second year of the Cross-border Film School continues with another welcome return! We are delighted to have director and storyteller Sonja Prosenc back with us to guide our students through one of the most practical and visual phases of the project.

This session focused on a crucial step in film development: producing a teaser. Sonja shared her unique expertise on how to translate narrative concepts into powerful imagery, teaching students how to capture the soul and atmosphere of their stories in just a few shots.

It was an intensive workshop where storytelling met visual experimentation, giving our students the tools to communicate their creative vision effectively and professionally.

The creative journey of our students continues! We are thrilled to welcome back Fabrizio Cristallo, renowned Head of Development and Story Editor, who returns for the second year of the project to mentor our aspiring filmmakers.

The final round of lessons of 2025 at the Cross-border Film School brought students back to collective project development, working in mixed groups of directors and screenwriters to further shape the ideas they had been developing over the previous weeks.

For this important moment, we were pleased to welcome back Nicos Panayotopoulos, screenwriter and author, returning for the second year to guide the students through a process of analysis, rewriting, and collaboration. The workshop offered a space to test ideas, strengthen narrative choices, and explore the dynamics between writing and directing as a shared creative practice.

A meaningful return that once again confirmed the value of continuity, dialogue, and long-term collaboration within the project.

For the second year in a row, Paul Tyler returned to the Cross-border Film School to work with our new cohort of students, bringing back his workshop dedicated to unlocking creativity and shaping stories in new and effective ways.

Through Handling Ideas, students explored story mapping as a tool to visualize, organize, and develop their concepts, transforming abstract intuitions into structured narrative frameworks. Classes resumed at the Cross-border Film School with the second weekend of lessons in October, once again guided by Erica Barbiani, returning for the second year to continue a dialogue already well established with the students.

Building on the ideas developed during the short break between sessions, the class worked on shaping concepts and directions, sharing their projects and receiving in-depth feedback throughout the day. Alongside this collective work, the session also offered an introduction to the role of the creative producer, exploring how creative vision, development strategies, and production choices come together from the very early stages of a project.

To mark the beginning of the second year of the Cross-border Film School, our students were invited to explore the territory that surrounds and inspires our work: Goriziaโ€“Nova Gorica, a place shaped by borders, encounters, and shared histories.
For this new chapter, we were pleased to welcome back Anja Medved, whose contribution had already been a key part of our first year. Some perspectives continue to resonate, and revisiting them can open up new layers of meaningโ€”especially when looking at the same places with new questions and new voices in the room.

Another look back at one of the key moments from our past lessons at the Cross-border Film School.

During a dedicated session led by Tina Jeromenโ€”psychologist and performance psychologistโ€”our students took part in an intensive team-building workshop focused on communication, collaboration, and creativity.

Through imaginative presentations, trust-building exercises, and fun, interactive challenges, the group explored how mental preparation, focus, and resilience can enhance both individual performance and collective creative work. A hands-on experience that encouraged students to step out of their comfort zones, strengthen group dynamics, and rediscover the value of working together under pressure.

Because filmmaking is always a team effortโ€”and sometimes, looking back helps us move forward with even more awareness ๐ŸŽž๏ธ

A little throwback (yes, weโ€™re catching up ๐Ÿ˜‰) to the very first moments of the second year of the Cross-border Film School, which officially kicked off on October 16th, 2025.

During the opening conference, the new cohort of students was presented to institutions, professionals, and members of the film communityโ€”marking the start of a new year of learning, exchange, and cross-border collaboration.
