Yesterday we hosted the Wild Britian Forum on British Nature Restoration Assembly at the Linnean Society of London, skillfully moderated and curated by Rob Yorke.

We brought together a working group of people actually delivering nature recovery across Britain. Scientists, land managers, farmers, NGOs, and investors. Not to present, but to test what’s working and where things are getting stuck.

What’s clear is that Britain isn’t short on capability. The depth of knowledge in ecology, land management, and biodiversity is unusually strong. You have leading scientists alongside farmers who are actively reshaping how land is managed, often ahead of policy.

There’s no shortage of ideas.

The constraint is ex*****on. Getting aligned delivery across land, science, policy, and capital remains the challenge.

The next phase is straightforward. Move from discussion into implementation, with a tighter group focused on practical delivery and long term partnerships.

If you’re already doing the work, or want to engage at that level, get in touch.

Thank you Gail, Anna and Padma at the Linnean, and thank you all attendees and speakers for the support.

Grizzly bears once numbered over 50,000 in the Lower 48, roaming from the West Coast to the Great Plains, and as far south as central Mexico. But habitat loss, hunting, and conflicts with people and livestock drove their numbers down to fewer than 1,000 by the time the Endangered Species Act passed in 1975. Today, wildlife managers argue that the populations in Greater Yellowstone and the Northern Continental Divide have recovered enough to be delisted. We disagree.

How many are there in the lower 48? Roughly 2,000. Here's the breakdown:

Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem: ~1,000 bears

Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem (Montana): ~1,100 bears

Cabinet-Yaak, Selkirk, North Cascades, and Bitterroot ranges: a few dozen or fewer in each—some populations are still very small or functionally absent.

Is the Colorado Conservation Alliance’s Western Wolf Habitat story map proof or marketing to spur a federal review of reintroduction?

99% of Colorado’s beef comes from large ranching enterprises, yet small-medium ranchers are the loudest against wolves.

Ranchers already battle bigger threats—harsh winters, disease, and accidents kill far more cattle than wolves ever will.

Colorado even reimburses up to $15,000 per wolf-killed cow. So why not support wolf-friendly meat?
